There usually is a upper and lower heat shield and the rattle comes from the two parts vibrating together.

But is could also be the HFCs that were mentioned earlier.

i did hear the hisssssssss around 4K rpm on that video.... I would safely assume that its coming from the HFC's since i don't have that hissss sound that your having trouble with.. i have magnaflows on stock cats

Yeah you can hear it more with the windows down, if you drive by some one i don't think they can hear it, just the glorious exhaust note. I guess I'm gonna try to get rid of the Y pipe with the heat shields and get some heavy duty flex joints on there and see if that helps.

Csquared, did you ever determine which exhaust component was rattling? I have the same issue with my HFCs.

It's the engine, with stock it muffles the sounds. So when you open up the exhaust you can hear it. I don't have my G anymore, I moved back to HK and got me a 370z and they also have the same problem.

I used to get this rattle even when I was revving up. I took it too a shop and put the car on a lift and we could tell that it was coming from the Y pipe where the pipes met.

So I cut it and put in a muffled X pipe. I lost the rattle on the way up, and muffled the rattle a bit with the revs dropped. I hope I helped.

Thanks. I wonder if changing the Y-pipe to say the Ichiba G37 Y-pipe will eliminate the rattle. Changing the Y-pipe is less hassle then a custom X-pipe setup.

Simple answer no.

It might move the rattle to a different RPM point, length or rattle might change, might get louder or softer. But nope it'll still be there. There was a guy on Myg37, changed a Y pipe and it was still there.

Ask anything you want I did a lot of research hahaha.

Don't folks that installed a full exhaust (HFC, catback) eliminate the rattle?

I think only the FI exhaust. Figured it was because they have no Flex joints sound is trapped inside the pipe then eliminated in the resonators.
