Magnefine filter - trans oil cooler line question
Hey guys,
I wanted to install a magnefine ATF filter on my 2008 G35 sedan. I can seem to figure out which is the return (or supply) lines as the exit the radiator. It looks like it was redesigned for the gen2 cars as it does not look like the diy video configuration. (looks like gen1 cooler is on the bottom of the rad and the gen2 is on the driver side of the rad) I checked the manuals online and can't find an answer there. (the dealer was no help either)
Has anyone done this and figured this out?
Thanks for your help in advance!
Jeff

Hmmm...your right, even the service manual doesn't say. The picture showing flow direction is a "schematic" style which shows the cooler running along the bottom of the radiator which is not the case. ![Dunno](https://g35driver.com/forums/images/smilies/dunno.gif)
You could get a bucket and lots of newspaper/rags. Then just detach one hose, have an assistant to start the car for a few seconds and see which way the flow is. Kind of messy but it should work. Remember to fill the transmission fluid after each attempt.

i was hoping to avoid the messy way -
am i the only one who has had the thought of putting a magnefine filter on a new car? minimizing contaminants seems like a good precaution and all around best type of maintenance since we eventually have to change out our fluid. or am i just being really ****? lol

The only thing bad that I have read is that some people have complained about sluggish shifts due to suspected pressure loss after install. That being said, it was never conclusively shown to be a direct result of the new filter as there were other possible causes. And other forum members with the filter did not have the same issue. This was on some Honda forum. Same thing on another Ford forum.

Here are some Ford poeple discussing. Looks like Ford recommends it after a rebuild but they also qualify the installation by requireing the tech to perform a flow test to make sure that pressure is not reduced below specifications. Ford even has rebadged it under their name. http://www.thedieselstop.com/archive...o=&fpart=1.htm
Another link where someone complains about the bypass valve sticking and causing high temps. He said, she said though. I don't know who is right but figured to let everyone know then you can make your own decision. http://www.thedieselstop.com/forums/...-filter-51785/
Honda has a similar inline filter OEM just to show the idea is reasonable. http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic280086.htm

i sent a message to 'bythabay' - the guy who did the diy videos for magnefine and asked him if he had any probs with the filter and he said that he has not experienced any difficulties.
