Aftermarket LSDs
VLSD is not the same as a clutch / gear type LSD. it wears out over time and thus turns into an open diff. It's not as effective as a proper LSD anyway.
the 370z diffs are the same as ours i believe so we should have a lot of options!

The V in VLSD stands for viscous.
VLSD = Viscous Limited Slip Differential
A viscous differential works by heating a thick fluid, making it expand.
The diff has 2 plates close together (one for each axle), similar to a clutch type diff,
but they never touch each other.
When the wheels spin in opposite directions the fluid between the plates is heated up and expands, locking the plates together.
Over time the fluid wears out and doesn't lock up as well.
The fluid is encapsulated within the dif, so it does not get changed when the dif lube is changed.
....I installed a Quaife dif in my '04 G35 and it was great.
Here's how it works.....
I love the same setup on my '08

Also, anyone knows if the MT and AT have different pinion/ring gear ratios?
Found a great step by step explanation of what all this LSD stuff's about: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential.htm
Should have thought of the website sooner, it has everything

Why do you need an A/M lsd anyway?
But it's different due to the 6th gear in the MT tranny and not the diff right?

The other issue with 1st gen was different stub axles.
The stubs on the MT dif with OE VLSD had to be swapped out.
Also, the 350Z had different ratios than the G.
I bought an open dif from a Z really cheap & modded it for the quaife.
I'd love a Quaife on this car, but I'm not going down that road yet.
I'll wait until the VLSD starts to caak.
