do i need a retune with new engine?

so with my new engine. and i had the cobb pro tune done.
ive contacted cobb tuners about this but i wanted to get your opinion on here too.

So my question is

1. can I still use that same map from the old engine on the new engine with the same parts, because the ECU is still the same. Or because it is a new engine does it need to be retuned because that changes everything?

now if i wouldnt need to retune If I should be all right with the current setup and no changes then would that mean that I would be failry close to the same HP numbers give a take a couple for different engine setup?

Thanks a lot for the info.

stock engines can be over 50 hp between them.

that tune was for the other motor. Not saying it wont work, just saying its not 'tuned' anymore.

was it a custom tune? if so, then yes you certainly need a new one.

Speaking from experience, As soon as I got my new engine with all the performance parts on it, the only thing was to reflash the ECU. With less than 10 miles on the motor the ECU was reflashed with an updated powerpup and all I had to do was control my foot during the break-in period. No regrets. For you, if you know that the cobb tuning didn't contribute to your motor failure then I would do it only if there is an available tuning software update that would be most likely more complient with our motors.

yes i did have a custom dyno tune done.

when i just talked to cobb they said that i do not need to re tune my car. as long as the mods are the same and the ecu is the same back to stop, reflashing it with the previous dyno tune map will do the same results as it was before. only that i may or may not have the same about of HP just like you said because stock engine hp numbers differ.

so i dont know...

COBB must be confident..
I would be hesitant to say anything unless I see some logging....

Post some logging and I will tell you if your tune is OK or not...

Hey Suby01, I'd like to see #1 logging in the CSV format. If they kept the similar format as other access port, this will include temp, timing, throattle position, MAF reading, factory o2 AFR..& Knock count, Kock thresh hold.....etc. If you could, I'd like to see logging from a WOT from 1st through 3rd gear. One from decel from WOT, then WOT(Transition from Open to Closed to Open loop). Also, your regular driving from below 20% throattle (easy driving) to FULL throattle in 5th gear or tallest (Transition from Closed to Open loop).

Post it here so that I can read it with you all.... Thanks, Dude!!!!

dan im deff gonna get you the logging. sounds good to me, but i talked to cobb and when i asked them if there is a way to do what you just said and send it to them so they can tell me if i need a new tune whatever. they answered that there is no way to do that on the G35 HR YET.

if you have any experience with cobb ap please let me know how to set that up. thanks a lot man. later.

im gonna see if i can work something out. either way there is a dyno day coming up in a few weeks so im gonna go see what i come up with.

I will have to read COBB website to see what type of logging they are doing for G35 HR engine. It's a bit surprise to me that they would release a version without support for logging. Do log whatever you can and post it up please? I can fugure out the values. Key is to capture the transition between "Closed" to "Open" loop, "Open" to "Closed" loop in normal street driving. These are not captured well during dyno....
I have plenty of experience with Access port for SUBY WRX, STI ...etc I've been using ECUFLASH for quite sometime but basic concept are same.

By the way, try to ask some questions on timing tables and AFR tuning while you are at it (dyno tuning). There is no right answer but data is what you have to go by. Conditions such as air temp, fuel, & health of your engine all become a factor in tuning in my opinion...

Here is some sample from Mitsu logger (not apple to apple comarison but these are the values I am looking for).
