high idle after warmed up?

hi all.

I have a 2008 6MT sedan. This past weekend, i drove the car around running errands for about 30 minutes. I noticed that when i get to stoplights, the idle rpm felt a little high. It's at about 1200 rpm. Is this normal? I dont recall it running this high especially after the car's already warmed up. I had the AC on also, but i always drive w/ the AC on. BTW, the weather in my area that day was around 80F. Pretty nice day.

That night i checked and my reserve tank for coolant was empty. I filled with water (all i had at the time).

Any ideas?

1,200 is high, even with the A/C on. If it's a continuing problem, take it to the dealer.

I have a G35 sedan, platinum, premium pkg...has 102,000 miles on it and just got it serviced yesterday and noticed that its idling higher than usual even when the engine has warmed up. It's idling at 900-1,000 at a stop light without the a/c being on. Is this too high?

You have a 2nd gen with 102k miles? If that's correct, think that makes you the winner!

That sounds high - per my BullyDog, my idle is set at 800 (stock) when warm, and it usually stays around there.

I had a bad coolant sensor not too long ago. My car would idle super super low and the temp was super low as well. Take it to the dealer and have them check out the throttle bodies and make sure all the sensors are working properly. That's my only guess, or your carpet is hitting your throttle? Heard on the news of a tragic car crash involving a IS 250 from Lexus, they're car was out of control and couldn't slow down. Come to find out it was the carpet getting stuck under the throttle. Never hurts to look you know :P

I think it is actually the floor mats on the Toyota which looks to be blocks just the right size for the pedal to get stuck in.

ok. went to the dealer yesterday. they fixed it. turns out i had some crud on the AFM. It sounds about right cause i haven't changed any of my air filters :P

After getting the car back, it's amazing how smooth the car feels. I guess i should do my routine maintenance... heh heh. just glad it was a quick fix..
