How hard is it to change the auto transmission fluid?
Tireplus wants $140 and Nissan dealer wants $190 to do the transmission oil change on my 2007 G35. The oil itself cost only about $30. I am thinking of doing it myself. Anyone here who has done it before please share your experience.
What tools are needed? How much time to get the job done?
Thanks.

i got charged $300 to do the transmission and differential fluid for the first time earlier this year and i vowed 'never again', especially at that price. it can't be that tough. i don't think there is an internal filter so its just pulling the drain plug and then refilling it after. i would google around for some DIYs.

What year is th OP G35 and has the AT Fluid ever been replaced or 'refreshed'
You can purchase cases of 12 of the Nissan ATF online and it works out to less than $8 a qt. Check Ebay

I did mine a couple of months ago by myself (i am not a mechanic by any means). It's actually really easy. The only hard part is to unbolt the dipstick and measure the oil perfectly taking into account heat expansion, etc. whatever you take out, just put back in the same amount. no more, no less..

I think the diff & manual oil (not sure about auto, but prob the same) is easier than the actual motor oil change especially that you don't have to remove the bottom shield guard. Just make sure you can remove the filler bolt before removing the drain plug or your SOL without any oil in your car

Step2: Loosen the drain plug and drain the tranny fluid.
Step3: Go in to your engine bay and top it off through the A/T fluid dipstick.
Be sure you fill with the exact amount of fluid that was drained. Use something like this because every car can vary 3qts-5qts.
You only need your basic socket set.
Takes less than 5 minutes to do.

That's how dealerships operate. I just had my window motor replaced and it was over $230 in labor and the part was alot too. Good thing I had an extended warranty. My deductible was $50
