Nope, we don't have enough power at the wheels to do so.

Thats odd...my 04 maxima 5AT used to chirp on hard acceleration off the line. I guess even though the power is "off" to the front wheels its not necessarily all redirected to the rear?

@borderline: the car easily has enough power to make your tires "squeak/chirp" easy on all RWD, my F35 AWD even chirps for a second if i accelerate hard before going into awd mode...

If this MOD really makes your car 100% RWD then there is no reason you cant chirp your tires a little even with VDC on and if you turn it off you can do a lot more at your own risk!

You can do that in a straight line on a dry pavement with the automatic tranny?
I tried few times and it was not successful

To OP, Great Job! This switch should be a standard feature. This reminds me that when I bought my 04 toyota 4runner I got the v6 because 4wd was switchable, and with the v8 it was fulltime only. Perhaps you can read the service manual a little more and come up with a 4.5/5.6 liter switchable awd with manual tranny? Why infiniti will not build that car I will never understand.

did this n the dyno (awd) and it worked very well. the awd system stopped "searching" for traction

Hey, all I did to put in a switch for my awd was put a fuseswitch in from the fusebox on the drivers side by the e-brake. No cutting into any factory wires...just pull the awd fuse and pop in a fuseswitch which I got from a R.V. store then mount my switch in the dash above it beside the vdc switch. Might cost $10 more but I rather that then cutting.

I've had it disconnected for 3 months now, still no issues. Had the AWD plugged back in to bring it to the stealership, then back to RWD everything worked just fine. As for getting my tires to spin, if its raining out I can sit at a stop light and spin my tires, dry road just gotta hold the brake a little bit and the back tires smoke up.

i just unplugged it and it is awesome in the rain :P lol but i tried installing a switch and it doesnt work, can someone please help me out? does anyone see what i did wrong here? i cut the orange wire but maybe thats not the power wire? i seem to have a lot more wires going into the harness than OP did in his pics... but basically the switch doesnt do anything...if the harness is plugged in then AWD is functional regardless of whether the switch is on or off...

The only thing I don't like about this mod is that my rear tires will be gone by the end of the month :-P

For the life of this thread I never personally found any incentive on wanting to do this mod. Why would you want to lose that extra AWD grip that it gives you off launch? The X automatically transitions to RWD after 20mph anyway... and donuts? thats for kids!

Well, until someone mentioned improving MPG, which we all know stinks. Still I'm a little skeptical, until I came across some articles on the 2012 GTR where such a feature actually exists.

"The most interesting option is the 2WD mode, which can turn the car into a rear-drive only machine. The 2wd mode can be activated by pressing the “fuel save” switch for more than 4 seconds, but somehow, we have a feeling that economy will not be the main objective of this kind of driving."

So -- has anyone actually compared their MPG before and after?

EDIT - ok nevermind, Fuel Save feature is independent of RWD mode..
