cam position sensor
so i had a light a few months back p0014. anyways bank 1 cam position failure
it went away
just came back on today p0014. so i went to infiniti. they looked through the cars history. the variable cam timing clutch had burnt out a long time ago and was replaced but no one put in the new software that was supposed to go with it. so this dealership upgraded the software for the car to see what was going on.
they are hoping thats the fix. if not they quoted me almost 1200 dollars to change the sensor. it was 625 for the part and then the rest for labor. i can see 4 hour of labor but 625 for a sensor?
so my question is. how much is the sensor really gonna cost? i searched google but everything was 50-100 bucks. is the dealer putting in extra parts? can someone make sense of this?

Something's amiss. The sensor should cost no more than $200, even that's a stretch. IIRC, the sensor in this car is the same across most of the VQ line. In my old VQ that sensor set me back $125 + labor.
I suggest having it replaced soon though, it was a nightmare with my old car. The cps was erratic and would shut the car down at random times and sometimes wouldn't turn back on right away. After a dozen instances the SES finally came on. You're lucky that the light came on right away.
