Unhappy My bad luck with CATS :(

What gives?!?!?

Following on from my issues earlier this week ---> https://g35driver.com/forums/v36-eng...ke-harley.html

I managed to find out what was wrong with my car and I honestly can't believe it, My Berks were good for 2 years until the core went toast (https://g35driver.com/forums/media-s...years-old.html), so I figured the Invidia CATs would last just as long and to my shock this is how it looks 3 months after installation :

Only the passenger side CAT ripped out of the welds and it seems like a pretty clean split.

I'm trying to remember if I hit it up against anything but I sure I haven't scrapped my car from underneath since getting the cats installed.

Also as I explained in my earlier thread, this snap came on all by itself, as if the welds got too hot and couldn't handle the heat....Anyway looks like I'll be going for RTPs now

Hey guys do you think I could cover the gap with some thermal wrap and spray?

Because I have to take the car to the garage and right now it's ridiculously load so I want to cover the gap up with something to reduce the noise....Any suggestions?

Will the thermal wrap and spray ignite? and would a metal can be a bad idea to use? lol

You might set the wrap on fire trying to cover the gap. Long hose clamps may work the best just to quiet it down. Are the Invidia cats under warranty? I would think this should be covered. Hit them up.

^Bad weld job IMO. A good weld would have taken off some of the base metal. Exhaust heat would never get that joint hot enough to fail the weld either.

Try the wrap! It may not completely fix it but its a good temporary solution.

x2

also,

I would check into why are you going through cat's so often...

recently I went through 2 sets of crawford z cats in a matter of 24 hours...

After much investigation.... I have a bad motor mounts, they would jerk the cat's violently under heavy acceleration causing the internals to come loose, and/or cracking the welds.

Yep, I figured it had to be an open pipe somewhere.

It seems to me you should have a legitimate beef to have it covered under warranty. That weld is a joke.

You shouldn't have any problems quieting it down with a temporay wrap of heat tape. They sell small repair kits in auto stores so you don't have to buy enough to wrap an entire header. It will not catch fire!

Well the first set of cats were fine for roughly 2 years until the core got dislodged. I don't think it'll be anything to do with my engine mounts but I guess it is always a possibility.

Yes they are the CAT's factory weld, this is how the cats came, below is a pic of the driver's side which is still intact:

I'm going to try and connect the two piepes together with a tin can and use some exhaust repair paste, cover it up with the thermal wrap to keep it drivable until the replacement arrives.

do fastintentions pipes come with all necessary gaskets.
cuz as far as i know the guys over there do not provide header's manifold gaskets anymore.
they only include those gaskets with two bolts. as for those with three bolts (triangle shape) they're not included anymore . . so i'm not in a position to understand how we're supposed to install our HFCs and TPs !

well I'm going with GTM to be on the safe side, they've been tried and tested and I don't want to be replacing any additional CATs at any point in the future.
