Heat shield

Hey guys I have a Stillen Gen 2 CAI, not the one that goes right behind the grill but it sits where the air boxes would go. I took the heat shields off because i was missing a screw to them but the heat shields were plastic and always super hot to touch and felt as if it was heating up the intake more than making it cool. What is your guys opinion on this? I also took it off for a test drive after removing them. Its louder in a different way. When i get close to redline my whole dash would start vibrating from the noise but it doesn't do that now. By taking them off is it making the intake actually quieter ?

Just because the plastic is hot doesn't mean the heat is getting to the filters. The plastic is actually absorbing the heat that would otherwise be sucked in by the intake. Not sure about the noise, but my vote is for keeping the heat shields on.

I know the plastic should be absorbing but i used a thermometer on the filter before and after and it seems as if the filters are acutally colder ( maybe human error?) Plus I looked at one of the filters and i cant tell if was mashed or melted against something in my car, i can post pictures later after i finish my finals
