Hi ppl I need help my 2007 g35x has recently started stumbling through the gear range my trans shows signs of late engagement I'm doing a swap and I wanted to know if I can use an 05 or 06 transmission as long as the connector was the same and will i have to to get the replacement transmission reprogrammed or is it just plug and play

 

07' - 08' have better internals than 03' - 06'. TCM on the valve bodies are different too. You might be able to make a older transmission work with some parts swapping but it wouldn't be a good idea. The 07+ were redesigned for 7500 redline and extra HP that the HR puts out. The only 5at swap I would consider would be the other way around (newer trans in older model)

Yep, only 2 years - 07' & 08'. You can have it rebuilt with new seals, frictions and clutches.

 

I just dont get it though what can be different when i had my 05 i put a 2002 nissan statega 5AT in my g35 the only difference was that that one had the old valve body style with the tcm in the glove box (2 green connectors) all I did was take my old valve body out of the 05 and put it in the new tranny from the statega it worked shifted perfect.
what about when people boost this v36 platform and add 6 pounds of boost (100) hp ..they dont need to change their tranny only when you start doubling power I think the 05 5at can only handle about 330 crank power and 350 fpt which is about 400 whp after weight ..what I am saying is that if you can add 50-100 hp to an 05 and not change the tranny then why cant you add 45 stock naturally aspirated horsepower ..
it's the same solenoids same tcm the added sport mode in the 2007s is generated by the ecu not the tranny

 

I think my real problem is that when I changed the solenoids on the valve body I replaced the fluid with an off brand multi vehicle transmission fluid from canadian tire
I should have just bought matic j from nissan
I think when that fluid gets hot it doesnt have the right viscosity to lube the clutch packs
Even on its worst amount of stumbling and slipping it would still shift all 4 and overdrive
so I'm going to have to flush it sucks but it cant be much worse then this
