Installing Laser Jammer - Help:)

Alright I am in the process of installing the LPP system on my car. We got the heads installed today with the wires through the firewall. Its a process in this car to find the firewall/send the wires through. We tapped into the one behind the battery. The small rubber gromet covering the hole came out when we ran the wires. Hope that is ok

Anyways, now for the (hopefully) easier part - doing the install on the inside. I want to put in the switch/etc in the ashtray as then it will be well hidden. However, any idea how I can run the wires here?

I dont want to remove the entire trim as it will be a pain to do a good job and fit it all back. I am looking at the service manual and it looks like I need to remove the finisher around the ashtray and shifter to access the ashtray which sucks.

Any help would be appreciated!

I installed mine on the other side... drilled behind the brake fluid reservoir and removed the panel under the steering wheel column, and put the switch there.

I'll try to take pictures tomorrow if it would help, but my guess is that since you're coming from the passenger side it's not going to help you much.

Thanks. It will be good to see your install. Where did you install your controls?

Do you know how to get a wire to console ( in particular the ashtray)?

I got a Blinder M-20 so the control box is tucked right there under the steering wheel column cover. We drilled a hole to hook up the on/off switch and the speaker and LED are down there as well. I guess pictures will tell the tale better...

As far as getting wiring to the ashtray, it shouldn't be that bad. You can remove the cover under the glovebox -- or even the glovebox itself and the center console trim (around the shifter) to get to the ashtray.

Don't be affraid of taking **** apart... the service manual is your friend. And remember no guts, no glory...

You had taken the whole thing apart. Cool

What tools did you use to remove the trim? I want to make sure I dont break anything in the process. I will only need to remove the trim surrounding the ashtray/shifter.

Again, check the service manual... it's really simple.

The driver's side panel (under the steering column) comes off with just one screw. Everything else is clips.

The glovebox is tough... tons of screws and you're going to need a really long screwdriver to get to the one on the far left side. The panel under/behind the glovebox is just clips though.

The center trim (finisher around the shifter) is really simple... you can unclip everything after removing the shifter **** and there's maybe 6-8 screws holding everything together. That's how you end up at the back of the radio too in case you wanna mess around back there.

-- edit --

Oh and I just remembered... if you're gonna take the glovebox off, you'll have to remove the washi trim on top of it first. And I think I had to take off the kick panel. It was a real pain in the ***...

That's why I went to the driver's side with the jammer though... it was just less stuff to take apart. But I had to hit the passenger side to put a dvd player inside the glovebox and the infrared eye on the top right of the windshield (I ran the wiring through the a-pillar).

Trust me, it's not that hard. You just gotta make sure you know what you're doing and you pay attention to the service manual pictures so you don't break any clips... I picked up this car 3 months ago and I don't think there's one panel that I haven't taken off yet.

Nice job guys. How are the Laser Jammers working out for ya? Pics of the mounted heads?
I'm going to be buying a jammer when i get a g37. At first i was gonna go with LPP, but now im lookin at a new jammer about to be released in the US called the Laser Interceptor. It's from the same guy that played a role in the development of the Anti Laser which spawned the creation of the LPP.
Early tests show it to be promising. Now I kno who to ask for help when i mount mine on the coupe!

As far as I know, the Blinder M-20/M-40 is one of the best, till the Laser Interceptor is released...

Hmmm, try this maybe

QUESTION: Anyone know how a laser jammer would "interact" with the Inteligent Cruise Control (ICC) system on the Infiniti?

Is it possible to remove the actual ICC module cleanly? I think it's an eyesore, but may be forced to get it if i want the backup cam and AFS headlights.

It shouldn't mess with it, since ICC doesn't use laser.

ICC does use laser though:

From infiniti.com:
Intelligent Cruise Control
With available Intelligent Cruise Control [1], computerized laser-based sensors monitor the distance to the vehicle ahead of you. If traffic slows, the system automatically decelerates or brakes to maintain your preset following distance, then resumes your cruising speed when traffic clears.

AND i kno that it sets off people's LASER alerts on their radar detectors.

Oh that's crazy... I thought ICC used microwaves like the other cruise controls out there.

In this case I don't know... if you get a laser hit on your radar detector from using ICC, then the jammer will probably interfere with it.

But you can always turn the jammer off when you use ICC and vice versa...

I have the ICC on my car and I have an Escort SL7 and it constantly goes off laser shifting even when the ICC isnt on. When ever you get close to a car at high speeds it goes off. I called escort and they kinda just told me that there was no way to fix it but that they were working something out for it. I have been looking around to see if I could put a switch on the ICC sensor and just cut the power to it all together when I wasnt using it but so far I haven't found anything

Like they said in the other thread, it looks like Preview Braking is on all the time, spewing laser like a misbehaved child all over the road, all the time. That's probably what's causing your shifting, because the laser from ICC bounces off cars close by and hits your shifter sensors.

I would hate that **** with a passion...
