How do you update?
Yearly. There is a cost but no prices so far. The previous generation updates are $190.

Is it a CD or DVD that you insert into the radio or some other method?

At some point, the cost of builtin systems will have to drop further. When you can buy a portable one for as little as $100, and move it from car to car, spending $2000 for one fixed into the one car seems excessive. 4 years ago, you didn't get some features of the G35 unless you had Navi, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. And portable systems are getting better.
