Can I hope my gas mileage will get better?

I have had my G25 Journey about a month - mostly city driving and I cant get above 15 mpg while my friend with a one year old BMW gets 22

This was my major concern about this car but I was hoping to be closer to 19 or 20 at some point-any hope of that ? Thanks

i guess you mean your g35 journey ? and yeah its not suprising to be getting 15 mpg on city. you'd have to treat her very well basically babying it 24/7 to be able to hit 19 or 20 mpg in city. 3.5 liter v6 comes at a price. you gotta pay to play =/. i sometimes get under 15 on city ^o^

First, I believe that you actually purchased a G35 Journey. Now for the question, I'd like you to do a little bit of search on this forum. You will find a whole lot of answer there. Just to give you a quick answer, NO. There is no way you'll get 20 on city driving. Most you'll get is probably around 17. For example, the highest I've gone was 23, and that was on the FWY the WHOLE TIME. I was going from Orange County, CA to Phoenix, AZ which covered about 420 miles (to Scottsdale). Now, for everyday driving, I cover about 20% FWY and 80% city, and I avg about 15.... sometimes even lower at 13. My last tank of gas last about 240~250 miles.

Just do a search, you'll find a lot of answers from there. If you're really that concerned about MPG, then maybe the G isn't a car for you.

Thanks for all the replys
Yes- G 35 , not 25!
I am hpoing to be able to AVERAGE about 19 or 20 ( combo city and hwy) and I'd be happy
Sounds like that might be realistic?
I work at home so not a daily commuter so its not such a big issue for me but I was a bit surprised my friend with the Beamer was averaging 22

Does he or she drive a 328/325i??? I've heard they get great MPG. Although I also heard that 335i's get pretty decent MPG as well....

i still think infiniti should bring the 2.5L version over as an option to people like the thread starter.

if you want mileage, 2.5 is your option....
you want perfomance, right this way to the 3.5....

I get 19 at an even 50/50 mix of hwy and city. same 50/50 mix of spirited and easy driving. thats 20's, auto, and intakes.....

evans....are you estimating by the gauge on the car or by the tank mileage and fill up volume division?

Er, I get almost 20mpg in my 6mt in city driving. I DO have the ECU reflash for the 07s though which was a significant improvement. Took me from barely 17 (prior to flash) to 19.9 (first week after flash).

20 is definitely doable on mixed conditions, I have 14K miles and I'm averaging 20.2 over those miles.

I wish I could get 15 on my X, I'm getting 10.5 right now.... though I can't complain too much since my last car got 7 (tsx)lol. I hope it gets better after the first oil change (143 miles on it currently)

which BMW does your friend have? I'm guessing its the 3.0 liter, not the turbo charged. . . smaller displacement almost always means better fuel economy. . . whatever floats your boat. . .your car surely has more power. . .unless its that 335

Oh and no, your fuel economy will not get better unless you baby it like said above. . .but why baby a 300+hp car?

I average about 16MPG, versus my 300C of 12MPG, same driving conditions, heavy right foot.

Its really funny, the G35 and my 300C actually costs me the SAME to drive!!!

Why?

1. G35 requires premium versus 300C requiring mid grade (wiht my superchips reflash, i only used regular gas)
2. G35 burns 16mpg versus 300C at 12mpg.

So although G35 is a bit better in fuel economy, it costs more in gas.
