Hey guys
I have decide to re-do my taillights.
I am going to spray them again but want a smoother finish.
I was wondering if anyone knows how long to put them in the oven to dry for. And around how long should i leave it in there. PLEASE HELP ME OUT thanks.

yes i am smoking them out, i have done all this before but just wanted to fix a few things. i wanted to try baking it this time, anyone know how hot and how long to bake for???

 

i am now following the thread, i will be pulling apart my headlights to paint the housings. so any advice is appreciated.

 

Preheat your oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the headlight housing on a baking sheet and put it in the oven for about 10-15 minutes. Seems like most people don't have problems with 15 minutes, but some needed as much as 20. Just do no more than 15 to be safe, try to pry it apart, and if the sealer isn't melty enough yet, plop 'er back in for a few.

 

sweet thanks. have you done this? alot of parts inside or just a couple of peices. it all sounds simple enough. what about resealing them?

The parts inside are pretty secure, you have to pop them out, for resealing heat it up a little and the glue that's there will stick together again.

 

OP is asking about taillights though... they don’t come apart (do they?)...

What specifically are you trying to do xxgoldenaugxx?

 

Carefull... any more than 20 minutes and they won't be moist, but dry and crumbly

 

i thought the taillights were plastic and couldn't be "baked" like headlights or they would warp

it is alright IVORY. thanks for help guys, i asked a shop this weekend and they said baking wasnt needed unless it was for real paint.
AS for Ivory, ive done my headlights and a few others. when taking it apart, there are actually a few screws that you need to remove from the headlight.
After that preheat the oven to 185 and put it in there for no more than 10 mins.
20 mins is a bit to much and people have actually warped the plastic or messed up the projector itself. when i did it for 10 mins, it actually came apart pretty easily. Try and find some NISSAN factory silicon to put it back together. and removing all the old silicon would help, but that is a real BIZZATCH. C clamps or any other of those kinds of clamps are great for holding the whole thing together.
PAINT
- some people use a high gloss black but i dont really like how that looks in the headlight housing, Flat black made by KRYLON is pretty good stuff. usually 4-7 coats of primer before hand work real great.
Wear latex gloves and try not to touch anything inside, a finger print or dust inside will always be there and doesnt look to great.
