You have to dig through the site a little to find the full story. The front page only tells people what they want to hear....

The "new" subscriptions that you can sign up for (with the old radio), are the family plans, the sports, news, and talk packages, or the Best of packages. The best of packages will give you all the same XM channels and "select" Sirius channels (or vise versa depending on receiver). However they've leaked what some of the "premium channels" are going to be on the ala carte package, so you can pretty much guarantee none of those will show up in the "Best of" packages.

The bottom line is that the two radios (and means of broadcasting) are incompatible. The only Sirius stations you will receive are those that are dual broadcast from both sets of sats. And considering the bandwidth limitations on the XM sats I wouldn't expect too much.

I think we were all hoping for a better deal....but this unfortunately is the reality.

Well I just got my sirius receiver today, I'm going to try to install it tomorrow. Hope it works!

 

Should be fairly painless. Keep us posted on how it works for you. Especially where you mounted the antenna, and how the reception is.

 

It's in and it rawks. I missed Sirius. Install was totally painless. Thanks for the pic bfranks, it worked perfectly. What I noticed was that XM is gone now but I still get the traffic. For some reason, I thought I had read here that you kept both. not that I want both but just letting you know how it works now. I put the antenna on the back shelf next to the speakers and it works great, even through the tints.

Can't wait to listen to stern again on Monday. Thanks.

I reread my post and noticed that I did say that everything but the CD changer still worked. I guess I assumed that XM no longer working was a given. Sorry about that....I'll edit the post.

Keep us posted if you have any reception issues. OldPhart had some issues, and is in the process of trying to tie into the factory antenna. I have a feeling it has to do with the type of tint (he has ceramic based), but either way, there may be an alternative soon.

 

bfranks - mine is on the way as well. I've only had the G for a couple of days, so I'm a little hesitant about ripping it up already. Can you give a little more detail on how you actually mounted the receiver? I'm not going to be DRILLING or anything am I??

I used the double-sided tape that was supplied as part of the kit. I secured it to the right side between the two black plastic pieces (covers seat belt hardware). There was a natural gap there, and it allowed easy access to the back deck opening for the antenna run. No drilling required.

If you do not have Nav then it's slightly different.

I've been a Sirius subscriber for 3 years, didn't want to lose NFL and Howard. This was very nearly a deal killer for me, but I really loved the G and thought I could learn to live with XM. Thanks to your help, I'll have it all now.

I already LOVE the G! I'm a computer nerd by profession, and I am digging the techie stuff almost as much as the G-forces when I step on the gas... Still learning how to work everything, this thing came with a serious pile of books. I'll be reading for weeks.

I hear you.... I mentioned several times to the salesman how big of a disappointment not having a Sirius option was. So many times he eventually offered a clear bra for free

I tried to like XM, but with two lifetime subscriptions to Sirius, it was a no brainer when I saw the kit at Grubbs.

As a tech lover you might check out these threads.... A few work-arounds for some of the more annoying issues.

I was able to locate an installer who has worked with Sirius / XM conversions.

All that was necessary was to solder a factory plug to the Sirius antenna;
Pull down the headliner and unplug the XM antenna lead from the sharkfin;
Plug in the Sirius antenna lead and run to the tuner thru the headliner and left rear trim (running the antenna was the most time consuming part).

The whole process took about 45 minutes.

Reception is the same as the old XM system, I wonder if Infiniti had two different part numbers in 2007 for XM and Sirius Sharkfins??

The only downside is you lose the XM traffic.

 

hey guys i got sirius in my car but i have the plug n play kind that you use of your cig lighter only because my car didnt come with the receiver so i just purchased the xm receiver by accident will this work ? or do i need a sirius receiver?

 

If your sig is up to date (03' G) then your install will be very different. I had an aftermarket radio / sat receiver in my 05' so I really have no idea what would be involved. As far as the receiver goes, the XM receiver will only work with XM. If you want Sirius you will need to exchange it.

Just out of curiosity, did you see what the "factory" plug that was soldered onto the Sirius antenna looked like? Was it an OEM part or a standard off the shelf part. I would look it up, but I'm on a sat connection and IT frowns upon us downloading 45 meg service maunals

 

Not sure, but the installer said it was a "very common" connector. Don't know if that means OEM common, Radio Shack common, or Electronics Store common. This place has bins upon bins of different types though.

I can drop by and ask if it will help. Or maybe a quick call to Bentley at Grubbs can shed some light on it.
