14$ a quart is ridiculous. I think i pay 6$ for AMSoil shipped probably even cheaper bc I buy 4 gallons at a time.

Bring your own
I switched to Synthetic on the first oil change. I suggest bringing your own oil, the dealer price is high and they may not have a good selection. If you have mods you may want to consider using a 0W 40W oil. Mobil 1 now makes a 0W 30W. I have used Royal Purple and it increase the mileage

I would not suggest pushing it to 15K. I change at 7500, that's about twice a year. This is well within warranty limits and better for the engine. Keep in mind synthetic oil may keep its' lubricating properties longer, but it still gets dirty and dirt is what breaks down the oil and does the damage.

I switched to full syn at the first change (3,750 mi). Full syn is a minor expense when you DIY on the oil changes. Second change at 7,500 mi and then sticking with the every 7,500 mile per Infiniti standards (Premium level is simply unnecessary). A lot of the big name syn oils are made by the same oil company monsters (i.e. Conoco)...I'd agree that Amsoil, ELF, Motul, Royal Purple are probably slightly better products but following the maintenance schedule, any name brand full syn is probably fine (I use Castrol or Pennzoil 5W30 full syn usually). For the budget minded here in Western NY, a local retailer (VALU Home Ctr) is always running Kendall GT-1 Full Syn (another Conoco product) at $2.99/qt for 5W30 or 10W30. That's a good deal!

Questions for all the oil experts here,
I bought my car second hand and it currently @ 60,000 miles. Let's assume the previous owner didn't use synoil at all. What should I do, if anything, to "clean up" my engine before putting synoil in?
I am a mechanically handicap so I don't think I can take out the engine and scrub it...

Synthetic Oil....when to change?
Since this is your second oil change it should be allright to switch to synthetic
now. Pep Boys had a deal on Mobil 1 with filter for $24.99 this last week, that's good oil and the price is right. You can change it yourself or find a
shop that will do it for you for around $10. I never go to the dealership unless I need warranty work done, that way I don't feel like I being screwed!

a quality filter like Mobil 1. Then change it again after 2K miles and your
engine should be cleaner. Keep an eye on the color of the oil every couple
weeks to see how clean it stays....good luck!

I made my first oil change at 999 with mobil 1 5/30 and mobil oil fitler. changed it again at 5500. I've got about 7500 now and it has never used any oil, and I beat the hell out of the car.
as far as cost, I do my own with rhyno ramps, just drive right up. You can get the walmart 5 gallon mobil 1 jugs for $25ish. Mobil Filter will run $11-12. Make sure you get the factory style brass crush washer for the drain plug, $.85. Not a problem, even for the not so mechanically inclined

I know a guy who has a turbo nismo 350z and he told me he uses a 5w- 30 Valvoline synthetic blend and has no problem. Anybody else ever use Valvoline oil or has any input on this oil? Also is it true that if you use synthetic all you can also use conventional all?
