1800 rpms at idle when startup???

today when i started my car the car started idling at 1800 rpms.....i never looked before but it sounded a little louder then normal today, but doesnt that seem a little high? then when i put it in drive it would drop to abot 1k which is normal......

any insight?

The car will idle high until it reaches operating temperature. If you watch it, the RPM will slowly come down as the temp gauge goes up.

That's the car's warm up cycle.

Let it sit for 30-60 seconds and it'll drop.

your right, its a lot higher than other cars

but mine doesnt drop that much after 60 seconds

My s2k takes about 3 minutes to drop from 2200 to its idle of 1000 if I just let it sit there.

My G used to take about 60 seconds to go from the warm up to idle.

I think this is normal. I notice that our cars usually reach operating within 30-40 sec.

thanks once again guys....just seemed high compared to all my other cars....i know as long as it drops its ok. but 1800-2k was just a lil high on startup IMO

Just noticed the same thing this morning, 3rd day of ownership and 70 miles on the car. Seems a bit wasteful in the gas dept. 70 deg isn't exactly a "cold start", does it take longer for the idle to drop in cold weather?
