Hi
Many of us are familiar with, or know about, the Garmin GVN 52/53. Is anyone here familiar with this brand?...PYLE
Your insight would be appreciated.

Not sure
. Quick search shows that it uses Destinator software including Navteq maps. The standalone software gets pretty favorable reviews, but can't find any reviews for that unit specifically.

It is a cheap alternative but i had a pyle headset in my previous car and lets say that you do get what you pay for *** the volume button kept falling out so BestBuy replaced it for me twice the third time i gave up, but i would hope this would be better and solid but do your research first

I'd be a little warry about this one for several reasons.Originally Posted by rpm&my_G35

- it's not really a dedicated black box like the Garmin GVN, more of a stripped down PC running Win CE
- Win CE v4.2 version is WAY old (6.2 is current)
- product support
- is it really that much cheaper than GVN?
...JMO but I've had built in navi & I actually prefer TomTom running on my HTC Diamond Pro.

It's actually more expensive than a GVN. I've never heard of the company and am curious as to the quality of their products. I guess the fact that I've never heard of them should be a tip off. Originally Posted by InTgr8r

Very good points, BTW
I have a Garmin portable I use all the time. I also have Telenav GPS on my Blackberry. I agree they are the way to go.
I'm just curious about things.

Pyle is cheap. Not sure about the software and all but the Pyle name is not really the higher end deal... Get the Garmin unit, it's tried and true.

First off I'm not really that familiar with GPS units, but why the heck does it seem like the black box units as a whole are more expensive than a mobile GPS unit which obvious needs its own screen, and sometimes their own sound. . . .anyone??

My guess is Supply & Demand. The more of a product you sell, the less you can often sell it for.Originally Posted by Calpolytlo

Compared to PND's, they probably don't sell to many of these black boxes .
I agree it's a bit frustrating which is why I wish someone (reputable) would make a PND with audio/video out.
