I recently got a rock chip on the highway. Called my insurance company and they said I could have it filled on them or pay my comprehensive deductible of $100 dollars to have it replaced. As far as I know anything under comprehensive will not cause your premiums to go up. I opted to have it replaced, since the damage was significant. They sent me to a repair shop that charged $750.

Later that week I went to the dealer for some maintenance and I asked them how much to replace it. They quoted me $395. Couldn't believe how much cheaper it was.
