Hello all, ive been looking in doing a Transmission and Differential Flush on my 07 G35X. Ive looked online searched the Forums and I was reading a lot of different information. Ive had my G for about 4 months now runs great an all but im not sure if the past owner had done most of the maintenance on it. I took the transmission dip stick out and its a brown color it smells really bad. And i read it supposed to be changed every 30K? idk if thats for the rear wheel drive. I want to know how many quarts ima need if i do a flush and do i have to use the the Matic-J? And i have no clue on how much the diff fluid is needed or what kind. With tax refund time comming around the corner i want to do all this soon. Thanks All!

 

Are you doing an actual flush? Because that requires an expensive machine. The Infiniti dealer around Boston will do a full transmission flush for $199 and a differential and transfer case fluid exchange for $189. That is pretty cheap for an Infiniti dealership.

Also, if you want to just do a drain and fill of the transmission fluid yourself, you can just measure how much it drains out and then fill that amount with fresh Matic S or Matic J fluid. Usually, you get about 4-5 quarts drained if you go with this method. A flush will usually use about 12-14 quarts.

If the car was driven extremely hard, the transmission fluid should be changed every 30k miles according to Infiniti. Otherwise, 60k miles should be okay if the car wasn't driven heavily.

 

I just want to drain whats in the pan underneath, I saw a video on a 06 g35 i think it dropped about 3 - 4 qts.
Man if id live around Boston I would definitely go there but i live all the way out in California thank you!
Is there a filter that need to be replaced also?

How many miles on your G? If it looks and smells that bad I agree that a drain and fill would be the best for now.... To refresh some of the lubrication but let it mix with some old. If your trans is worn too bad (which it should not be) a complete flush can do it in. It's not the flush that would kill it but rather the removal of all the old fluid that has clutch material in it which aids it in shifting (friction) on a worn trans.

I once had a old Ford Taurus that I was about to sell but had a little trans leak and didn't want to sell it that way (I'm too nice I guess) so I took it to the shop to change the gasket and new fluids. The car would barely make it's way out of the shop or down the road. Some $1000 later it was working.

Drain and fill again in 5 to10k. Mine took right at 4 quarts (but measure what comes out to be sure)
Also check the level before you begin (hot and running on level ground)

 

It has 76k. I was reading online on how fluid should look or smell I have some short knocks after 1st gear. I'll be stopping by a nissan dealership n see how much quarts of transmission fluid will run me for thank you all!

 

The Infiniti dealers are linked up, so you might be able to ask your local dealer to check service history. When I was looking at a G35\G37 they gave me printouts of what was done to the car which was owned in another state.

 

I got my car used also, it had 72k miles on it when the transmission fluid was changed. The dealer told me that it would ideally get done at like 30-60k, so i let them do it and they flushed all of it. So far its been 4000 more miles, everything's been smooth.
