Help with gas cap door and lock replacement and testing

I bought this G35x preowned.
I just realized it's suppose to lock when I lock the car. The lock is broken.

I am opening it manually by pushing the right side of the fuel door but I want to see if it can be fixed and if it's a bigger problem than a broken lock.

What's my next step to troubleshoot this?

When you lock the vehicle from the fob it should lock the fuel door, to unlock the fuel door you have to double tap the unlock button on the fob to unlock the entire vehicle.

Not entirely sure what the FSM says about the fuel door but I'd start there.

Either your gas cap door tab needs an adjustment, or your lock isnt working.

Leave the gas door open and keep locking and unlocking the doors. Do u see the little pin on the left side popping in and out?

I definitely don't have that. It's broken off.
I see the mechanism working when I unlock/lock it. I see a white round plastic going in/out but it's still inside hole.

That's the part I need. What is it call?

Its called a fuel door lock actuator. Theyre about 50 bucks on ebay.

But if the assembly is working but only the plunger is missing, u might be able to fix it if you are good with tools and a bit of creativity.

I literally drilled a hole into the plastic male portion that broke off and screwed a screw into it. It works well now as a lock!

Haha. Thatll work. Wrap it with some tape to make it thicker and put some shrink tubing over it if u wanna make it look less ghetto. Careful tho....dont use a lighter to heat the shrink tubing either lol.

OP...any progress?
