After years of exposure to the Arizona desert, these black exterior trim pieces have completely disintegrated. What was once shiny and smooth is now dull, discolored, and in some places, like sand paper. More than anything else, it just bugs me.

I've been looking to see if I can replace them but it appears to me now that these may not be trim pieces at all but some sort of film or coating. Does anyone have experience with this? I'm not sure what potential solutions may be. The good news is, I don't think I can make it much worse.

PS I'd search previous posts but I have no idea what to call these things. I don't think it's a part.

Make sure they're smooth if youre going to cover them with vinyl. I would wet sand with 1000 grit first.

I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to see if I can get it done on Friday. I'll update with picks.

Update
Here are the after pictures. Overall I think it came out great. It took me a couple tries before I started to get the hang of it. Thanks for the suggestion.

I used 3M 1080 G12 Gloss black Car Wrap Vinyl Film. It was $13 on amazon for 5ft x 1ft (5 Sq/ft). I only need a 1.5 ft x 1 ft section to do all four doors. Now I'm looking for opportunities to use the rest of it.
