Re: Carbon Fiber Hood

I know of a company called Bulletproof Automotive (bulletproofautomotive.com). They carry carbon fiber hoods for the 350Z. As far as for the G35.. hmm, good question. I think BA is supposed to carry one real soon.

Re: Carbon Fiber Hood

OK. Excuse my ignorance, but what is the advantage/benefit/purpose of a carbon fiber hood?

Re: Carbon Fiber Hood

LIghtweight. However, since our cars already come with an aluminum hood instead of a steel hood, you get less for your $$$ than on other cars.

Re: Carbon Fiber Hood

95% looks, 5% weight. (Considering our hood doesn't weigh that much as it is.)

Oh but if you get a scoop in it you might get some engine dust, free of charge.

Re: Carbon Fiber Hood

LOL, Like mentioned.. 5 percent effectiveness, 95 percent looks

You won't have any advantage with a CF hood since our hoods are light to begin with. But you will still look good losing! :P

Re: Carbon Fiber Hood

I work as a marketing director for NTMA Training Centers. And I work with professional CNC operators and Mastercam Programmers (machinists). And 10 out of 10 of them said that I will definitely benefit in getting a CF hood for my G35SC. It will add 10-15 HP and be lighter. So, the statistics are great. I will let you guys know how my car turns out and take pictures of me beating our fierce competitors.

Re: Carbon Fiber Hood

Just to put things into perspective.
C Fiber is 30% lighter than Au. Estimating the hood to weigh about 150lbs (I belive it is lighter than this), you would cut about 45lbs from the weight of your car. You would be better off taking out the spare tire, jack, back seats, passenger, etc.... to get rid of the unwanted weight. Your real performance improvement would come from reducing the size of the flywheel, and reducing the radius and weight of any other rotating parts.
It seems to me the hood is more of a looks thing.
As for increasing HP. I'm not sure how a hood can increase HP. The weight loss will lower your inertia making you faster from 0-60, 1/4 mile, etc... but it is just a weight loss not a HP increase. Want a HP increase, race on a colder day.

There is an effective HP increase tied to weight decrease and if I remember correctlly it is a non linear function. If you have a formula for this I would like to get it. I've been playing with a formula in excell for a while and 15HP for 45lbs is a little excessive.

Better living through Math.
