Referral needed: Paint

I need a paint referral to match a new urethane lip spoiler to my BS sedan. Anybody got a shop in the East L.A., O.C. or Inland Empire?

I'll even run to the South Bay if there is a cost savings.

Cheers, ted

I have a guy that will come to your house. He did my Maxima, and it turned out flawless, and very reasonable. PM me, and I'll give you the info this weekend.
BTW Bruce, I agree, the retarded kid HAS to go! Geez!

Re: Referral needed: Paint

Hey Mooser, how can a guy paint at my house... don't they need a "clean" room and some heat to cure the paint job? Maybe painting urethane is different...just curious.

BTW.. does anybody have any ballparks on the cost?

Cheers, ted

Re: Referral needed: Paint

Automotive paint is not my specialty by any means, but I'm pretty sure that "today's" paint and urethanes are more "air cured" than they are baked. That is, unless you want it baked. There are several variables involved, flex agents and color matching. The are different types of flex agents that will keep the finish from cracking, something you may want to discuss with the people you decide to go with. I have always heard that Silver is the hardest color to match. I also have another reference. There's a place in Covina, called R & S Autobody. I understand that they have a "contract" with Mercedes Benz. They are located near Second and San Bernardino Rd. Here's the number; 626-915-4953, and ask for Robby if you wish to pursue it. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Re: Referral needed: Paint

LOL, the guy that did my Maxima rear bumper, did it in my garage. The Max was backed in half way, with the garage door wide open. He wet sanded the entire bumper, masked everything that was needed to be masked, and then applied the paint with the sprayer. There was no wind, breeze, or current blowing through of any type. If there was any at all, it wasn't an issue. BTW, I gave him the factory color code in advance. Within 2 hours of "air drying," my bumper looked perfect. No lint, dust, nothing. Not even overspray.
The entire job probably took 3 hours, from beginning to end.
He had all of his equipment with him, on his truck, to do the job. The only other thing I can say is, you have to see it to believe it (at your house that is} I'm not making this up, honest!!!

Of course, anytime you do something like this, you're taking a risk on not having it turn out exactly the way you want it. Here is my "contact."
ALEJANDRO
Mobil Auto Paint
(310) 489-5212
His name is Alex, and speaks "broken" English. His business card says, " Specialist on Bumper Repair-Dents-Scratches-Any Color."
Like I said before, a friend of mine turned me on to this guy. I gave him a try, and was very satisfied with his work.
