Anyone in Vegas
Anyone in Vegas
I'm going to be in Vegas on the 29th & 30th. Thought there might be somebody to give me some tips for not losing everything. Besides not gambling at all.

Re: Anyone in Vegas
What's up? Other than not gambling at all? Um... learn the rules, play the statistics, and just have fun! That's how I survive out here...

Re: Anyone in Vegas
Here's the "wick" insight to gambling in Vegas:
1) The golden rule is to set your limit! Decide when it's time to throw in the towel and STOP PLAYING if you've lost all the "limit money." Say to yourself, "If I break the limit, I will be forced to key my own G." That should help you resist the tempation to gamble beyond the limit =)
2) F*ck statistics! It's all about the luck of the draw, hence the word gambling.
3) Try to play at whatever game you know best.
4) Don't get greedy. If you win a good amount at a game, walk away. A nice thing to shoot for is paying back for the trip with your earnings.
5) Ahh my favorite. There are plenty of things to see and do in Vegas (clubs, strip, other hotels, etc.) Try and explore vegas before you gamble. If you gambe and lose, you will be very depressed and might not want to see the REAL VEGAS.
6) Re-read #1. It is very important. I've seen people blow so much money and be depressed for months and not want to do anything.
Good luck and follow the wick guidelines! You should be ok =)

Re: Anyone in Vegas
I had a bunch of friends in town this week, and the first thing I asked them when they sat down at any table was "What's your limit?". I made 'em stick to it...
As for stats... play em if you know em, only because you don't want to be a retard and take a hit on 13 with the dealer showing a 5. If you don't know the most basic stats, you're just throwing your money away much, much faster. You throw it away, anyway, but hey, get some joy from it Other than that, Wick's right on--

Re: Anyone in Vegas
Wick's #1 rule is the biggie. We've always done that. You have money for travel expenses, food, entertainment, and a separate amount for gambling that doesn't interfere with anything else.
We always like to stop at the Gold Strike in Jean on the way to/from Vegas. Seems to be a lucky spot for us in passing, and we usually grab a bite to eat there. On our way out once, there was a couple having an argument. The wife was pissed and yelling at her husband. He gambled away all there money. All of it. Not just their vacation money. Their rent. They didn't even have enough money to put gas in the car to drive home. (She was yelling rather loudly is how we know....) The best way to avoid that is to decide on your limit before you leave home, how much can you blow and not fret about, and don't go a penny over it.
Also, find a game you like and stick with it for a bit. Learn it's rules. If you jump around, drop a little in this slot, that slot, play blackjack for a few minutes, jump over to the roulette wheel, then you might as well just walk up to the cashier and hand them your wallet.
If you do like slots, avoid the newer nickel machines that let you place 5 bets on 9 pay lines and such.. that's 45 nickels.. or $2.25. It's a sneaky dollar slot in disguise. You bet 45 nickels, and hit a couple of paylines, and hey! You just won 20 nickels! Woohoo! (Forget the fact that you lost 25 in the process.. doesn't matter.)

Re: Anyone in Vegas
Thanks for all the advice. I'll just take what I can afford to lose and leave ATM & credit cards at home. I don't play slots to much. I love blackjack if I can find a good group at a table. The hard part is walking away when your ahead and getting to bed before the sun comes up.

In reply to Wick's # 1, if, and when my "daily" funds are gone, I will stop. Usually my wife and I are split up on opposite sides of the casino, so I'll grab a beer and sit down somewhere, and watch the cocktail waitresses go by. That's the best entertainment for me!

Re: Anyone in Vegas
well when you blown your 'daily funds' you can borrow 'tomorrow funds' and promise to return it back with interest i'm kidding offcouse...if there's ever a rule in gambling,it's should be 'discipline'. know when to quit while ahead and know when to let go when you're down.go do something else.go up the the room take a shower/bubbles bath or take a nap.go window shopping, peoples watching.go to sports bet area to watch a game or treat yourself a nice meal the money you spend on your meal can be make/lose easy on gambling table.or just do it like mooser, watching cocktail waitresses walking by.btw, which casino offer the best dress waitresses??? (to watch that is) my vote is the rio....
Re: Anyone in Vegas
Well in my case I don't think watching the cocktail waitress would be very interesting. Of course unless I was lesbian.

Re: Anyone in Vegas
Yeah, but the bartenders don't dress in revealing attire. Now if they were in G strings that might keep me occupied for a while.
