am I getting ripped off?!?!?!

my normal shop couldnt get me this combo in time - so i go to a shop down the street and ask for 4 axis pentas in falken all seasons mounted and blanced - he gives me $$$2100 too much. but remember, these people love to rip off walk ons - especially if they are young

the next day i call over the phone. I want four axis pentas wrapped in falken fk's (summer) tires 245/40/19. this time he gives me 1900 over the phone - same guy

I go in to drop a deposit today and he hands me a sheet

4 19" axis penta
falken 245/40
4 nys scrap tax $10

subtotal $1985.00
total $2167
tax $172

i tell him i am paying cash and he responds "still, cant help you"

now falken and axis advertises msrp. if i add those up the total is 2080. so it would cost me 2080 to order the tires off the intex without mount or balance.

worst a friend of mine offerd me the package (but with different tires) for 1900 flat.

now someone, please tell me...why is this guys charging me so much freaking tax!!!! is he screwing me over!!! i would have bought the wheels fine at 1900 when I called himup - but why cant he help me out?

i already signed the papers ( i know stupid me, but this has to get done) and the papers say deposits non refundable and 25% re stocking fee plus shipping charges

Why is he charging you so much tax? Is that a serious question? He doesn't make his own tax rate, it's set by the city/state, which looks to be about 8.66%. Not unheard of.

172 / 1985 = .08664 x 100 = 8.664%, though I don't know how much of that $1985 is labor or if it's all parts.

I don't understand what the problem is. That looks like a fair price to me for a brand new set of wheels and tires, mounted and balanced. Tax is tax and unless you live in a different planet we all pay taxes. Even if you get a deal like that out of state, you'll have to pay for the shipping anyways.
