Tire/Wheel Insurance

Am getting the 18" wheel and tire option. Dealer wants $599 for 5 years - would replace tire or rim if damaged for any reason except sidewall flat. Says low profile tires get flats easily if you hit a pothole. Also says rims easily damaged for same reason. Is this true or is it just a way to tack on more dough. Thanks.

Re: Tire/Wheel Insurance

You never know whats going to happen. You might never have a problem and then your out $600. If it doesn't cover sidewall damage then I might pass on it. I had 2 tires replaced 1 month after getting my car, both with sidewall damage (nail and screw) that was not repairable. I paid $400 for 4 years and I have already made my money back with 2 Sport Pilot replacements. I am pretty sure my warranty states they will only patch the tire if the damage is in the tread. If you curb a wheel and they replace it then I say its a great deal, considering the dealer will want some ridiculous sum of $800 or something for 1 wheel.

that's what insurance is all about. Doesn't matter if it's house, life, auto, personal belonging, *** insurance. It's a very nice mob invention for companies to gain money. Do you ever buy insurance when you play black jack?

no sidewall protection? that's one of the main reasons i got insurance for the tires.. with all the potholes and uneven road surfaces in houston, it's a necessity... i wouldn't pay nearly $600 if it didn't have sidewall protection. isn't there a policy that will cover that for you? besides nails and road debris, with these tires, sidewall protection is the next big killer... find something that gives all the coverage man.

Insurance for a house or car is a good thing.

In BlackJack, it's a sucker bet. Just say, "No."

How about your auto insurance company? I would say forget the dealership. They just want your $$$'s!

Re: Tire/Wheel Insurance

Thanks guys. Read the fine print and it didn't cover curb damage. Wheel would only be replaced if it didn't seal the tire. No coverage to sidewall flat. Major rip-off.
