Help with a Tire question (Whamp,Whamp noise)

All,
I need your expert opinions. I have a 06 coupe with 12,200 miles on it and I have noticed a slight "whamp, whamp, whamp" noise coming from the road/tires - ONLY SOMETIMES. Does anyone know what this is???

Could be bulging tires, indicating tread seperation. Get them up on a hoist for closer inspection and rotation.

could be a bunch of thing; your alignment being off could cause scalloping of the edge of the tires, you may have tread separation, posssibly a flat spot. take it to a local tire shop and get their opinion.

Check your tires, could have something in it.

Are you hearing this on the freeway? I'm saying this because some tires just naturally have louder road noises than others. Just my 2 cents.

Whamp, whamp, whamp noise..... that is funny.

If you are saying it happens every so often it may possibly be the roads you travel on. Concrete roads need joints for expansion. It's possible the roads you travel on may happen to have fairly wide joints. If so, I can see the whamp whamp.

The reason why I say this is because if you have a tire issue the matter should be apparent at all times.

if you bought the tire/wheel warranty take it in and ask them to "road force" check your car. They'll balance your tires first then run it. I took mine in today because I ran over a big board in the road and my car had more "road noise" than before. One of my tires was out of balance and now I'm good to go and all it cost me was two hours of hanging out at the dealership. Good luck

this may be just me, but i had taken off one tire to do some mods - a while back, and i ended up driving the car for a week or so before i was like wtf is going, and took it toot he dealer, was having some wierd noise like your discribing every so often, well....verdict was that my lugnuts where pretty much loose........no idea how i could have only tightened them "finger tight"....pretty sure the dude was just exagerating...

but yea, check your lugnuts to be sure they are tight enough....i think its like 100lb or soemthing close, if you have a torque wrench or what ever it is called

Whamp whamp

I have this at 19000 miles. Been getting progressively worse since about 2000 mls. Never had a wheel/ tire impact with anything. I'm bringing it up within the next week or two at service time.

It's getting louder than my Blose stereo.

Yesterday, as it happens. The service rep said front tires wear unevenly on the inside. Sounds like it's a very common issue. Only solution - new front tires. I'm just going to live with it till these are worn out then take advice on the best replacements to minimize the problem next time.

my S03's do the same... not just on the G35C, but on all the previous
cars i had in the past that ran S03's. the noise level depends on the
type of surface you drive on (as mentioned above).

its just part of having high perf tires. Even my GS-D3's do it.

it will get progressively worse until you replace it.

make sure you have enough psi in the tires not to cause flat spotting
especially if you only drive your car on the weekends.
