Leave the ODs (front and back) the same. As well as the speedo, you'll through off the VDC. Keep the stagger near the way it is. It will look funny also. You may want to look at Bridgestone S03s. I just ordered a set of Dunlop SP9000s. They don't come in a 225/45 though. You could use a 245/40 in front and a 255/45 in back.

Actually, yes there are better tires for less. Take a look at a set of Bridgestone Potenze S-03s or a set of Goodyear Eagle F1-GS D3s. Both with have comparable dry grip to the Pilot sports, but a better ride and better wet handling. When you replace the fronts, you might even want to swap to 245/40's to help even out the balance of the car.

You can check out these Firestone's for about $177 ea. I know, you immediately think of SUV's rolling over when you see Firestone. lol! But, check out the rating on this one;

Re: a cheaper alternative to the michelin sport pilots
I just replaced my fronts and backs, i got 275/40 in the back and 245/40 in the front, they look great, if you goto discount tire co, i think they were yokahama, basicly the cheapest i could find with an AA rating for everything and they wear better than the pilot sports, and with the size increase they handel just as good as the pilot sports
Re: a cheaper alternative to the michelin sport pilots
You put those sizes on the stock 8" wide rims? Those sizes are ment for 8.5" for the 245/40s and 9.5" for the 275/40s. You should have severe tire buldge in back, and you could have the tires peal off in agressive handling situations. I have the same sizes (Dunlop SP9000s) on Nismo wheels in the correct widths. They don't handle as well as the Michelins, they out handle them by a wide margin. I'm surprised Discount Tire let you do this, the store I shop at wouldn't.

Re: a cheaper alternative to the michelin sport pilots
man.. i hate these michelin pilot sports...
pretty much a rear michelin was destroyed firestone style (sidwall was too soft). Needless to say.. i needed a quick and cheap solution.
anyhow.. to write a long story short, I bought 2 Pirelli P-zero Assimitricos 255/35zr-18.. I got them used (lucky find) but new ones cost a bit cheaper than the michelins. Cost is $225 for 1 at treadepot.com. grips better than the michelins and they don't squeel. The sidewalls are much firmer even without the smaller profile ratio.
also you may want to try out toyo proxes t1-s... very good tire! grips really well and the sidewall is more firm than the michelins.. $210 for 255/45zr-18. 255 tire fit well on the rear 8" wheel... the tire did not stick out as much.. only a tiny bit, however it looks more appealing than the 245.. a bit more flush. The stock tires seemed as if it's going to pop outwards. -_-;
my recommendations.. both worth the performance, quality and value.. p-zero's and toyo proxes.

Now that I I've had my Dunlop SP9000s for almost a week now, I can't say enough good things about them. A great tire. And, the price is right.
