Brake Job HELP!!

Hello all;
I have a question I'm hoping you fellow G owners can answer because I am just beside myself with this one. I had my first brake job on my G at around 14000 miles. I drive my G the way it was meant to be driven, but in all fairness, my car is on the highway 80% of the time. Well, here we are at 27000 miles and I need another brake job AND new rotors to the tune of $1000
My question: is any one else seeing this sort of ware on their brakes? This seems really excessive to me. I completely understand that driving habits, conditions, ETC play a role, but damn, every 10000-12000 miles for brakes? Am I expecting too much? My Honda accord, which I use to drive in the city EVERY day, only need 3 brakes jobs AND I had 65,000 miles on it!!
Thanx in advance for answering my post!!

Re: Brake Job HELP!!

I would just go with after market rotor and brake pad. I think some one has done this and written and DIY guide already.

I found it in freshalloy forum. May be a moderator can put it in our own DYI section.

Re: Brake Job HELP!!

I've already swapped both my front pads and rotors at 16000 miles.... they say it's normal that G35s have their brakes changed at around 15000 because the way the brakes are calibrated....

Re: Brake Job HELP!!

Pads and rotors, how much did that cost you? I don't understand why the rotors have to be changed, what's that all about?

Re: Brake Job HELP!!

I was at 15,000 miles when the dealer told me that I would need new pads and rotors for the front. It was $550. Search this forum, there is a lot of conflicting info about early pad and rotor replacement. Some people are getting it covered under warranty and others are not. Complain to Infiniti consumer affairs and you might get them covered. I was unsuccessful. I read a post where Infiniti of Canada is covering the pads and rotors for 36,000 miles. I don't know if it has been confirmed. Like I said, lot of conflicting info....We all need brake job HELP! I wish Infiniti would get their sh*t together!

Re: Brake Job HELP!!

Well, to me, the only way the rotors should need replacing is if the pads were left to wear down to the metal, and ruined a rotor, and even then, if caught in time may just need to be turned! This car is supposed to have a warning when pads get below a certain thickness, and to me, if that doesn't work, the warranty should cover it! What was their reason for not helping in your case?

Re: Brake Job HELP!!

At 15,000 miles I had 3 mm left on the pad. The wear indicator is set at 2 mm. So, I had 1mm left. According to their measurements of the rotor, if they were to turn the rotors, it would be below specification. Basically the rotors are thin. Other people have had the same issue. Either way, it is premature wear...I was able to convince, with MUCH discussion, the dealer to pay half of the job. I hope Infiniti starts to pay for brakes for everyone and not just a select few. Hopefully they get their act together.....

Re: Brake Job HELP!!

Mine haven't worn to the metal. I have 8,000 miles on my car. The front rotors are wearing noticeably (there's a definate lip at the edge), while the rear rotors are fine. I have plenty of rear pad left. I can't tell how much front pad is left, as the caliper doesn't let you see the pad w/o removing the wheel, and I haven't done that yet, but it's not completely gone.

I hear the OEM pad material is hard on rotors. Aftermarket pads would conserve rotor life, and good aftermarket pads would conserve rotor life, reduce brake dust, and provide equal or better friction.

Re: Brake Job HELP!!

So the real question is: when the time comes, which rotor/pad combo should us non-brembo sedan owners get?

-Stillen slotted rotors w/ Matrix metal pads? (~$650ish on infinitipartsusa.com)
-EBC slotted/dippled rotors w/ Hawk pads (~$470ish on tirerack.com)

I mean if the dealer is gonna charge $1K for the OEMs, I gotta say I wouldn't mind investing in the Stillens.

Re: Brake Job HELP!!

See, my original complaint with this is, when I had my service 2 months ago, they told me the pads were "getting worn" and would need to be replaced next service. Now they told me, OH the pads have worn down so much that that it cut into the rotor. They told me the same thing they told "ETICKETRIDE” that they were too thin and cutting them would be unsafe. I called Infiniti consumer affairs and they basically told me that it is a wear and tear part and it is not their responsibility to replace them. So, I have informed them I am filing a complaint with the BBB because they should have told me last service to replace them to avoid this!! Oh, I even mentioned the Canadian thing and they know nothing about it...Allegedly!

Re: Brake Job HELP!!

No complaints about my Satisfied ceramic pads from Tire Rack. Very minimal amount of dust. Equal grip to OEM. Although some have complained about build quality of the rotors. Mine are fine.
