Are New Tires really that expensive?
Aight, so I am gradually approaching my 62k Maintenance Checkup. Cost? About $850. So now, I also need new tires, "SLIP" sign keeps popping up on just about every turn. Anyway, I went to one shop and they are asking total of $867 for Four Toyo tires with balancing, disposal, etc. Does that sound about right?
At that cost, is it "okay" to change the rear and replace the front couple months (2) later. I have an AWD, I think I read somewhere that AWD vehicles' tires must all be changed at once.

If you want "cheaper tires" check out Falkens on vulcantires.com The FK452s have decent wear ratings but the sidewalls are a little softer than the Michelin/Potenza summer rubbers. TDWs seem to be popular with a lot of folks too from tirerack.
Perhaps you're in a situation where your time > than spending money at the dealer but 850 is pretty high. If you do oil changes, you can do the differential gear oil, both air filters are very easy to do and the coolant is cake as well. The only thing I'd take the car to the dealer is for auto trans oil change. BUT, perhaps you work long hours or just don't want to do the work. Just an idea, all the DYIs are posted with pics. You'll be half a day in a garage to the above.

wat brand toyos.. and only 18's... u can prolly get toyo proxies 4 for about 650 installed in most locations.. i think those prices are high..
to ansswer your other Q.. or try to.. ive read in the owners manual of my pathfinder(AWD) that it is bad for the transmission if the tires are not the same.

Thanks for the insights peeps....I found some good tires at tirerack.com, and it'll cost about $600 shipped, but I would still pay to have a shop put them on and rebal and etc...for maybe another $150ish. As for the 62k maint check...I will lookup what exactly needs to be done and see what I can DIY. And yes, I do work long a$$$$ hours, but summer is around the corner.
