Picked up my new 2004 Silver/Willow AT Sedan w/ Sport & Premium (sans Spoiler - at least for now) yesterday. It came with 215/55R17 Goodyear RS-A tires which are a 1980s era design and not highly rated (see TireRack reviews). Prior to delivery, I ordered, again from TireRack, a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S in 235/50R17 (the recommended optional size) and had them installed with 21 miles on the car. Wow - do they look better - and have the highest rated performance of any all season (supposedly exceptional in the snow as well). Recommended!

Yeah, I went to the Pilot Sport A/S from the G-Ys as well. Night and day difference!

I took my G-Ys to a G-Y dealer and got a great price for them, even with 8/32 left on the tread. Since they are very expensive (over-priced) new, the G-Y dealer can give you quite a bit and still sell them at a profit to Nissan owners looking for replacements.

i plan on getting those tires when my GS-D are done. those 235/50 pilot sports AS should have better dry traction then my summer 215/55 GS-D right??

 

Great to hear about your tires. Am planning on mounting the Michelins as well after I wear out the G-Ys. Are the Michelins noisier or rougher riding since they are a bit wider?

Noisier NO - a bit firmer ride: maybe. I have the sport suspension - feels the same to me. A sports car with 4 doors - no other way to explain it.

 

is it ok to put 275/40-18 tires in place of the stock rears that are 245/45-18. i used the tire size calculator from another thread it shows to be theoritically the same diameter. but what about the section width? will they fit back there? same question for the fronts can 255/40-18 be fitted instead of the stock 225/45-18s?

To answer your question, the tires will fit the car fine, but not your wheels. If you went with wider wheels (8.5" front and 9.5" rear), the correct sizes would be 245/40/18 in front and 275/40/18 in back. The 245/40/18 front tire would work OK on your stock 8" wide 18" wheel, but the rear tire would cause severe tire buldge, and be unsafe. Some have done it, but I would not recommend it. The tire manufacturers call out a rim width range of 9-11" for a 275/40 tire, and recommend a 9.5". If you wanted a wider tire in the rear (with your stock wheel) you could go with a 255/45/18, and then use the 245/40/18 in front. Or, you could do what I did, go with wider 18s. I went with Nismos.
