Coupe owners - how long does your tires last you?

I have been visiting this site and posting as a member a while back (used to have a 2003 G35 sedan - which I sold after a year).

I'm now really thinking of picking up an '07 coupe as the '08 pictures don't really do much for me. Also, it looks like there are some good deals on the '07.

The biggest concern that I have right now is the tire wear. It seems like many coupe owners have been getting 10,000 to 15,000 miles on their tires --> which seems somewhat excessive.

I have searched on tire feathering - but wanted to see if the problem still exists with the later coupes '05s '06s and '07.

Please - post how many miles you are getting out of your tires. Also, if you have aftermarket rims - please post your experienc as well.

Everyones imput is really appreciated. This is a big purchase and changing tires *even the high performance ones* every 10,000 miles seems expensive and excessive.

I checked the Z forums and their premature tire wear has been fixed. I might go with a Z if the coupe has this as an issue.

Thanks in advance.

1st rear set went out at 11,800K (OEM RSA)
2nd rear set lasted 14K (PS A/S)
New wheel/tire - 3rd rear set lasted 22K (T1R - 275/35)

the front tires are still around!

My OEM Michelin Pilot Sports on my '04 are still going at 22,500 miles and still could go farther yet, but they are getting replaced at the end of the month since they won't fit on a set of 20" Volk GT-7's, LOL.

Tire wear is still the number one issue with Coupes. Front feathering and rear middle tread wear still exists on the stock rims. Feathering will be an issue regardless of rim change. I'm on my 4th set of tires after 20,000 miles. I got 6,000 on my first set of RSA rears, 7,000 on my 2nd set of rears (RSAs) and now with Avon 550 A/S I may get close to 10,000. All sets had the fronts feathering. I'm going next week for my 4th set of tires. (Dealer has been absorbing the cost). I may be dumping my car after this last set.

I have a 05 coupe with 19's and got 23,000 miles on the stock REO50's
Front tires started to cup at about 9,000 miles. Just put on a set of Pilot Sports, great tire so far.

Bocatrip - I'm trying to figure out if you are an exception or a norm - replacing tires after 7,000 is insane. It seems that you are getting 1/2 the mileage that a lot of others are getting.

I think if I can get around 20,000 miles of out of them - I will pull the trigger.

For those who has been replacing them by the dealer - is it hard to talk them into it or they know about these issues? Also, how many sets of "free" tires can you get ? and within what mileage?

Any difference with which wheels / tires you get? If I'm getting the coupe - I will most likely get the standard 17" (vs. 19")?

Thanks everyone for your replies.

I have 17s on my Coupe. All sizes have the front feathering, and the 18s have the middle tread wear issue as well. I'm not an expert on the 19s but have read about some stuff going on with the rears. The RSAs have been replaced at 6,000 and 7,000 miles respectively because the middle rear treads were down to 2/32nds, right at the wear indicator bar. Correct tire pressures were always kept. I've been very lucky in having the dealers replace them for me as most dealers will not do it. There are many owners that continue to drive their cars beyond this point due to not being aware of it, or to get the maximum miles out of their tires. I don't believe in this for safety reasons. As I said, the Avon 550 A/S are wearing slightly better and might get me 10,000 miles out of the rears but this is still not exceptable. (Narrow stock rim width is most probably the culprit) To make matters worse, the front feathering is terrible due to the maddening noise the tires make. This is because of the negative camber built into the front geometry of the suspension. Nothing can be done with this other than keeping the toe specs at maximum to slow it down. Only camber kits (which are expensive) can reduce the front feathering. I'm not trying to be negative but most coupes have tire issues. It's my biggest complaint and might be the deciding factor as to my eventually selling my car.

I have 16k on my oem tires and from the looks of it, it seems as though they're good for another 4k miles.

I was at the dealer last week and they are saying that the Z's and G's are only getting around 14k on their tires. At this point they don't have a fix (as far as the stealership goes).

I did some research on othe Z forums. It looks like Nissan has fixed the problems with the Zs. Starting with '05 cars - people are getting decent tire wear. That is why I'm so surprised that Nissan would fix it on the Z and not on the Coupe (their more expensive counterpart).

I have an 05 coupe with sports package. Rears went to 2/10ths at 24k. Fronts is being replaced for the first time this Friday and that's 30k. Lots of tire noise (cupping and feathering on the inside) started to become really extreme at around 20k.

If your fronts are going bald at 7k, you need to seriously check your alignment.

I have an 05 coupe and with the oem 19's on them. I had to replace my tires after 32,000. I was lucky to even get that far with them.
