Winter tire question..need a quick answer

my car is getting xm installed at the moment, and a salesperson said there was a set of 4 18" Dunlop SP winter sport M3s available (235/45/18). Do you think these would work for around $450? Thanks!

The Dunlop M3's seem to have a pretty reputation.

But from what I can tell the M3 doesn't come in a 235/45/18 size - there is a 235/45/17 available and a 235/50/18 but nothing in the size you indicate. I got that information from the Dunlop site http://www.dunloptire.com

Also, you don't say whether you have a sedan or coupe - there are differences in wheel/tire setups between the two - the coupe uses a staggered (differing sizes for front vs. rear) OEM setup for example.

I have the coupe...I'm not too familiar with tires, but that's what the salesman wrote down, and he seemed pretty confident that they'd work with the car.

I'd check with one of the service managers... Take the service managers word over a sales guy... remember he's there to get the sale.

I have those exact tires, in that size on my coupe 6MT. I got mine for under $400 through Tirerack. Had them installed for $58.00 for all four tires. They have been a godsend during the last couple of snowstorms here in Indy. I felt supremely confident driving them in the snow, and would recommend them to all coupe 6MT owners who opted to mount snows on their stock 18" rims. Terrific tires.

I can attest that they do indeed come in the 245/45/18 size and that the stagger is not required. My ABS and VDC have experienced zero problems with this set-up. I also confirmed with my service manager at Dreyer & Reinbold Infiniti of Greenwood, IN that the stagger is not required, and the aforementioned set-up will not upset the VDC and ABS on my coupe.
