235/50r17s on sedan sport 17x7 wheels?

Can the sport package wheels on the sedan - 17x7 - handle the 235/50r17 tires. It looks like best replacement for stock tires with regard to VDC, speedo. I have heard that Infiniti recommends no wider than 225 up front on the sedan. Anyone running the 235/50r17s now on all four corners?

Re: 235/50r17s on sedan sport 17x7 wheels?

Many people are. The 7" wide rim is fine for that size. 225/55R17 and 225/50R17 are also acceptable sizes on the stock rims, and in 225/55R17 there are a couple of good summer performance tire choices.

I'm not running one of these sizes yet, but should be as soon as my stock tires wear out.. which should be any month now. Many members are running the 235/50R17's without problems. In fact, a few are running 245's (usually on aftermarket rims) and reporting no trouble.

I have 255/45/17's all around on 17x8 inch rims and I also have 245/45/17's all around on the stock 17x7's with no problems at all. The first ones are my daily drivers and the latter are for autocross.

Yo lead foot.... U said I could do the 245/45-17 on mine cause you did it and have no problem and a few others have done it also on the 17 sedan sport rim.. BUT, you say you only autocross with that, you think its a bad idea if i'm using it for daily driving??? Thanks iLLG

What rims are you using in the 17x8 size and what offsets. Thanks.

Re: 235/50r17s on sedan sport 17x7 wheels?

Technically, if you look at the manufacturer's specs for any 245/45R17 tire, it's going to say that 7.5" is the minimum rim width. That being said, the stock rims at 7" are only one notch away. You figure the manufacturers usually put in a safety margin, and you're probably good. Now, figure also that lead foot autocrosses with this setup.. that puts way more stress on the tires than daily driving. We're talking full-throttle acceleration, ABS-lockup braking, and hard turns right at the limits of traction (and probably the occassional turn beyond the limits ). If the tire can handle that, you're most likely not going to knock it loose in daily driving.

Re: 235/50r17s on sedan sport 17x7 wheels?

ryoken, very nicely stated. I only use them for autocross because they're Falken Azenis, which are great tires for autocross. My other tires have been known to be the best there is in the rain (Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3) so I use them as daily drivers. The Azenis could easily be used as daily drivers as well, and the only reason I don't is because I have a better daily driver, and to make the Azenis last longer. The other G owner that I know that has this setup, autocrosses as well and uses them as dailies.

The 17x8's are Enkei RP02-J's with a 40 offset

I'm thinking about getting the F1's in 225/55R17 for the stock rims, and using them for daily and autocross. Either them or the S-03's. I suppose it depends on which is on sale when I go to buy.

I replaced the stock Goodyear RSAs at 204 miles with Michelin Sport A/Ss (235/50/17). The change was obvious and immediate. My wife immediately commented on the huge difference in feel and handling, the first time she drove it.

Those are nice tires, the only thing about the Pilot Sport A/S is that they are expensive, and while they're the best-performaing all-around all-season tire, I live in SoCal.. and a dedicated summer tire can handle all the weather we have here. We don't need no stinkin' snow traction.

If I lived in worse locales, I'd probably go with those as the spring/summer/fall tires.

Ryoken,

I broke down and got some AutoX designated wheels and tires.I bought a set of the MSR 190's 17X7 in black and a set of the Kuhmo Victoracers 225/45-17. I can't wait to try them this weekend. Wish you could make it out to the Q. See you next time though.

Re: 235/50r17s on sedan sport 17x7 wheels?

ryoken,
I put the F1 GS D3's on last week (225/55/17's on the stock sport sedan rims). So far I love em. I can manage a chirp only on my 1-2 shift where I could roast em with the stock goodyear tires. NO more "oops I fishtailed again", you only swing the back around when you try hard now.

They are a little fuzzy on steering at the limit but I am sure that is tire pressure only. (Still trying to figure out the best pressure to run em at to minimize understeer and still get good launches on the street). They are very good in snow (we had about 7 " in flagstaff on the ground the same day I got them put on).

I went to discount tire as they have that cool free tire replacement thing. 860.00 plus tax mounted and balanced

It would have run me 848 plus tax if I ordered em thru tirerack and had em mounted here. And I only would have got the standard road hazard for that price, not the replacement certificate.

PM me if anyone wants pics. they are definitely more aggressive looking from all angles and may be too much for some people

Do you think 17x7.5 wheels offset 45 with 245/45r17s will work okay?
