racing rims... plenum loss?

I'm going to get rims asap but I dont want to lose performance for this.

Right now i ride on the stock 18's.

1. Should i go get the stock 19's?

I'm thinking the 19's are forged so should be lighter? (are they really? they're an inch larger) and if so, are they really lighter by much? and they are 19's instead of 18's which isnt as good becuase it requires more power to drive them, but how much of a difference does it actually make, anyone know anything about this? - or are the stock 18's and 19's realtively similar in performance.

or

2. Volks, Rays, Advan, any racing rims, but I'd like something with a DEEP DISH a really deep lip. Pictures or links would be nice. 17's or 18's nothing bigger, want to be faster not slower.

on a side note
I've heard people with plenum spacers without exhaust and headers losing lots of torque cuz they're running lean? true? or not? I've got CAI only and thinking plenum spacer but if its true with the torque loss without exhaust componants, than I'd rather not get it before i get exhaust.

In regards to the plenum side note, for the wise guys:
-yes i'd get everything at once had I the money - exhaust and plenum
-yes with 7-10 psi boost on a turbo, is the way to go

Brembo 04 6mt

yes the stock 19's are lighter than the stock 17's and 18's

alot of people use them as their track wheels well atleast on a drag strip

Hmm, good to know, are you talking the star, 2 pronged Rays 19" wheels?

How heavy are the M45 wheels?

jon!

The 19s are lighter, although I don't know by exactly how much. You also have to take into consideration the combined weight of the wheel and tire. I got a set of light weight 19" Advan wheels, and I regret (a little) that I didn't get them in 18's because finding a good r-compound is more difficult and much more expensive for a 19" wheel. However, it is nice to have a good looking set of wheels in 19's, and a track set (that you know is going to get beat up) in 18's.

You're only going notice the wheel weight differences if you are tracking your car. If it affects you on the street, you're probably doing something you are not suppossed to be doing anyway .

IMO, go with what looks good to you.

Serious autocross guys stick with 18" because it is too expensve to replace 19" tires.

I took my OEM 17's off my coupe about 6 months ago...they weighed 51 pounds with the tires i had on. I bought 19" volk TE37...

Current set up
19 x 8.5 +22
19 x 9.5 +22
245/35/19
285/30/19

Old set up ( OEM 17" rims)
17 x 7 all the way around +35 i think is the offset
225/45/19
245/45/19

My volks weigh 3 pounds less per rim even though they are bigger and have a much wider tire on.

Also, just because the rims are bigger (18" vs 19") doesn't mean that they take more to move. If the rim is lighter it is easier to get moving...end of story.

There is a reason why manufacturer's do not make 19" slicks (or street legal drag radials) ... I think the largest you can get are 18's.

The bigger the wheel, the more energy it take (wastes) to turn them and overcome the tire's increased inertia.

Going too wide on the tire can also affect your run. If a tire is not slipping, then you do not need it any wider (wider is not better). Larger tires can also be heavier, and unsprung weight is bad.

When I switched from 17" factory alloy's to 19" Enkei RP03 my 1/4m times went up byt nearly a .1 sec. I am currently looking for a 16" or 17" solution on street drag radials, but will most likely need to find a 17" or 18" that will fit my planned BBK. This solution would only be for the track, as I would switch back to my 19's for around town. I'm opting for street/drag radials so i can change them at home in the garage instead of at the track.
