245/45/17 Tires on a Sedan

Ok....I know this has been asked before. G35 s came with 215/55/17 i burned them up and went with 235/45/17 S03's. I have burned them up (only have 16k miles but that is what club racing does). I was wondering if 245/45/17 will fit the stock sport wheels without rubbing.

Who knows for sure???? Please, I gotta order new tread I runnin on slicks!

Thanks for the help

Technically, 235/50 or 245/50 fits the 17x7 rims, but 245/45 requires a 17x7.5 rim. That's technically, according to the tire manufacturer's specs.

Lead_foot has been autocrossing Falken Azenis in 245/45R17 on 17x7's for a while. PM him, or maybe he'll see this and post his take on them here. He says they work great.

It took me 10k miles to run the original Bridgestone Turanza's down to the wear bars, and I'm autocrossing regularly too. Time for some better rubber -- but then I won't have anything to blame my bad times one.

I guarantee they will not rub. I'm running 245/40-18 on 8" rims with the same 45mm offset and I do not rub. 245/45-17 and 245/40-18 are extreamly close in rolling diameter and tread width, though I'd think a narrow rim would draw in the tire contact patch down via rounded shoulders.

Re: 245/45/17 Tires on a Sedan

oh yeah thats right...245's are too big for the stock wheels. I knew there was a reason I went 235's.

It probably makes handling worse then the 235's since there is more sidewall flex on the smaller wheels. I might just stick with the 235's. There just aren't as many selections at the 235 size.

Thanks for the feedback.

Try 225/55R17. You can get Bridgestone S-03 Pole Positions or Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s in that size.

Re: 245/45/17 Tires on a Sedan

if you are club racing, go with the 245/45/17 Falken Azenis, while techncially they require 7.5 inch wheel, like others said, lead-foot and and another guy have run them without issue. The sidewall on the Falken's are very stiff, you won't have an issue. The Falkens do wear out fast, but they are cheap and grip like crazy. Search for 'Falken', lead-foot posted some pics of his on the stock rims, doesn't look like a bad fit at all...

Why not the Falken Azenis in the 225/45ZR17 size?

Re: 245/45/17 Tires on a Sedan

The 245/45R17 is already 2.4% smaller than the stock wheel diameter. General rule of thumb is not to go beyond +/- 3%. 225/45R17 is 5.1% smaller than stock.

That would be okay for autocross days only, but you'd need normal size tires for daily driving, or you'd confuse the ABS/VDC systems and wind up with a rather large odometer discrepency compared to actual miles travelled after awhile. Plus, wider is better for handling.

what he said, plus wider is better, although that statement might start a debate,
