If anyone else is going to attempt this, I found it's much easier to use 3x5 notecards instead of all that masking tape... Just tuck in the 3x5 cards all the way around the tire. You'll still need a little tape to hold the newspaper to the tire, but I found the notecards work better at keeping the paint off the part of the tire behind the flange. And it's certainly much faster to lay out notecards then tape all the nooks and crannies.

it was my professional sanding and priming that did it.
