Stretched tires...

Why would one want to a have stretched tires? Is it out of pure vanity or does it serve a purpose?

you stretch the tires by putting a alittle bit of a smaller size tire on the rim i believe , just look at alot of the 240s and VIP cars, looks awesome

allows you to fit the biggest rim under your fender and still clear without cutting a tire.

my 275 rears find a home on my 10" wide rear rim. They fit only because an inch or so smaller sized tire is on there.

It's a fad and does alot of neat things. Like damaging the tire bead by mounting the tire on an unapproved sized wheel. Looks like someone couldn't afford the right sized tires. And last and not least, it's great for curbing the jack out of your wheels anytime you park.

^^ same, i like the other effect, too big of a tire on the rim. gives u curb protection and the most traction for your rim size. saying u have 10" wide rims and not putting a tire made for a 10" wide rim on it is like a girl wearing a water bra, its false advertising, and when it comes down to it, it doesn't cut it in the performance department.
BUT, to each his own i guess. and if you like the way it looks, more power to ya.
