Re: will this fit?
Work to stuff the widest front tread width you can in the front, then if you insist on doing staggered see where that leaves you for rear tire size. I have 245's on the front, soon to be 255's(current size in the rear). Their is no way I'd go narrower than that up front, if I did it would slow me down handling wise, I don't do that
Just to let yo know, their's about 5/8" clearence between the tire/rim and the suspension upright on 8" rims 45mm offset 245mm treadwidth. On that thought, your front offset is a smidge high, run 45mm. That way you can run a decend front tread width.
Here's a pic of the clearence between the rim/tire to the suspension. 8" wide 45mm offset. The full weight of the car is on the suspension in this pic.

Re: will this fit?
Gsedan35 - THANK YOU for the pic and your 5/8" measurement with 245's!
I've been having a devil of a time trying to figure which width and offset to use for a 255 in front, and that wheel to suspension clearance is the "missing link" when using the tire/wheel calculators. Unfortunately, the wheels I like come in 7.5" and 8.5" only, no 8". Since I wouldn't put a 255 on a 7.5" wheel, I need to confirm the offset parameters for 255/40/18 on an 8.5" and, if that won't fit in the front well, the best offset for a 245/45/18 on an 8.5". By best, I don't necessarily meant the furthest outboard, rather the closest scrub to OEM so I have room on both sides of the tire to drop about an inch or so with new springs.
With your measurement in hand, assuming a 255/40/18 on a 18x8.5 (+45), THIS calculator shows the clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 6mm (or 0.2362205 inch) LESS. That would imply just a hair over 1/2" of wheel clearance, without consideration for tire section, or width bulge. When you take section width and a bit of additional tire expansion (when hitting potholes, etc.) into account, a +45 offset seems insufficient for a 255. Maybe a +40 on an 8.5 would be a better choice for 255's?
I suspect you've already done this exercise too, so I'm curious if we are coming up with the same conclusion? According to the calculators and THX723's revised fitment chart, that should work ok - although there's probably not going to be enough room on either side of a 255 +40 to spit thru. We all appreciate your feedback when only a few mm's count.

Re: will this fit?
Gsedan35 - Just to clarify, does one of your earlier posts contain a typo?
In reply to:

Ok, I did my wheel and tire buying after a ton of research. My goal's were, rims have to weigh less than oem and they have to have a 45mm offset so I could toy with wheel spacers if needed to stuff the fattest possible tire in the wheel well's without rubbing on either the suspension or the fender lips. I'm running 245/40-18" all the way around. In the front I have 2mm clearance from the suspension, If I use my H&R wheel spacers I think I might be able to stuff a 255 tire in the front. In the rear with the 45mm offset rims I can run a 255 tire no problem, could run a 265 tire no problem to, except a 265 tire should not be run on a 8" rim. If someone was willing to pay big $$ they'd likely be able to find a rim setup with a high offset and 9" rear's. In any event when these tires need to be replaced I'm going to run 245's in the front, but upgrade to 255's in the rear. My own testing confirms the fact that the car should have been equipped oem with a staggered setup.

I'm guessing, based on the 5/8" (15.88mm) clearance you mention in this thread, that you actually meant 20mm (0.7874 inch) rather than 2mm in the quote above? If that is the case, then I understand from these two posts that there is 5/8" to 3/4" clearance between your 18x8 (+45) 245/40-18's and the front suspension.
I gotta put this to rest in my own mind. So, again, if I use your current setup and measurements to compare a few options:
Option 1.) a 245/45-18 x8.5 (+45) adds 0.25" (6.35mm) additional wheel width and zero tire section width to each side, leaving 3/8" - 1/2" suspension clearance*. Enough?
*It should be noted that THX723's original Fitment Chart showed 8.5 (+45) clearing the front suspension, but the revised Chart does not. Pretty certain several confirm running 245/45-18 x8.5 (+45) and stock spring height with no issues.
Option 2.) a 255/40-18 x8.5 (+45) adds 0.25" (6.35mm) additional wheel width and 0.195" (4.95mm) tire section width to each side (total .445" or 11.3mm), still within the 5/8" min.), but leaving only about 1/8" - 1/4" suspension clearance. Too tight?
Option 3.) a 255/40-18 x8.5 (+40) adds 0.5" (6.35mm) additional wheel width - 0.053" (1.346mm) inboard and 0.446" (11.3mm) outboard - while decreasing inboard tire section width by 0.001" (0.025mm) and increasing outboard section width by 0.391" (9.93mm). That totals 0.052" (1.32mm) more to inboard, and 0.837" (21.26mm) more to outboard. If we take Gsedans35's 0.625" (15.88mm) measure minus 0.052" (1.32mm) increase to inboard = 0.573" (14.55mm) clearance. IMO, a much more comfortable amount of clearance. Just right?
Ok, what about fender clearance? Even if they clear the front suspension, will 255/40-18 tires on 18x8.5 (+40) wheels rub the fenders? I refered to the Sedan Fitment Chart thread, where Will measured clearance from the outside of the stock 17x7 wheels and the inside of the front and rear fenders and got about 1.575" (40mm) for each.
Since an 8.5" wheel adds additional width of 1.5" to the 17x7 OEM wheel clearance, you have to add 0.75" each side to the increase/decrease of the 255/40-18 on 18x8.5 +(40) setup in Option 3. Therefore, using Will's measurement of 1.575" (40mm) stock fender clearance minus 0.75" (19.5mm) to compensate for increased outside width of the 8.5" wheel = 0.825" (20.96mm). Plenty, even when lowering.
To summarize, based on Gsedan35's and Will's measures, I think a 255/40-18 tire on an 18x8.5 (+40) wheel will result in approximate:
Front suspension clearance of: 0.573" (14.55mm)
Front fender clearance: 0.825" (20.96mm)
Rear fender clearance: 0.825" (20.96mm)
Is this consistent with other folks computations? Somebody want to double check the math? Sorry, didn't bother with rear inboard clearance as I'm not planning to run staggered, and I'm going for a drink right now.

nuttyprof - here are the tire manufacturers' guidelines for wheel width and the general offset ranges that should work with the sedan (according to TireRack). You can start with these, but if you want to max things out you must tweak with the calculators to be sure a particular application is workable.

With a 9.5" wheel you're going to need an offset of around +55 or more. I'm not thinking you're going to find many wheels like that unless you go custom.

dholly,
One of our local guy's got his sedan to run w. F: 19 x 8.5 +38 and R: 19 x 9.5 +42 (running 245/35 and 275/30). However, you will need at least a 1.5" drop to assit the 'tuck'. He also had his rear fender trimmed approx. 3-5mm as a precaution. No reports of rubbing according to him.
Hope that will get you some sleep!

Be prepare to say hi to 'understeer' w. 245/275 stagger setup if you're leaving the suspension stock. You'll need sway bars at the minimum to regain some front bias.
