I just put some new wheels on my car but I have a slight problem. I have added 245/35/19 all around on my sedan. Driving under 55mph I do not feel any vibrations. Once I get over 55mph, my steering wheel starts to vibrate. Going above 60mph, i can feel even more vibrations. Any experts think I need to take this to some place for balancing?

If you find an answer let me know....I'm having the same problem with 245/40-19's all around.

 

did you try checking the torque on the wheels? For my coupe I make sure it's at 80 ft-lbs on the lug nuts.

Dunno if that's your problem, but I do know that loose lug nuts will cause your car to have similar symptoms.

Just hope your wheels are unbalanced. If not that, your rim may be damaged/warped. I hydroplaned my car into a curb at about 50 mph in the rain on my stock 17s. From then on, I felt vibrations at about 55mph and above. The faster I go, the more the streering wheel vibrates. This was due my warped wheel. Once I got a new set of wheels, it stopped.

You probably need some hubcentric rings which are cheap and an easy fix. Aftermarket wheel companies make the wheels to fit a variety of vehicles. Hubcentric rings fill up the void around the hub and center the wheel so you don't get vibrations, etc.

Thanks for the reply guys, I'll try the hubcentric rings. Do you think the local tire shop have these rings? i.e Firestone or NTB

 

Not every tire shop will carry the rings. Check with a wheel/tire dealer that carries that make of the rim that you have, or if the wheel manufacturer has a web-site you might be able to buy direct. A good wheel/tire dealer that carries the make should have the right size rings.

If you bought the wheels new, then the folks that sold the rims to you should have asked what car you're buying for, and then provided hub-centric rings automatically. Some shops that don't automatically provide rings, but the better ones will include them automatically.
