Best tires for road noise?

I currently run Goodyear RS-A's on my '04 Coupe. Can anyone make a suggestion for a good performance/summer tire that can reduce my road noise as much as possible?

I went with Goodyear Eagle ResponsEdge V rated on my 2003 coupe at 35K miles. Very satisfied with this product.

Whereas rear RS-As were down to treadwear bars and howling at 35K fronts still had 6/32" tread depth. So Goodyear issued a pro rata warranty adjustment for the two front tires. With an $80 rebate for the tires I got a set of four installed for just over $600. 4-wheel Hunter alignment cost $90. Free lifetime balancing. Just Tires.

As good handling as RS-A,with better ride and very quiet. In 18K miles driven on these tires, still have 90% of original tread depth remaining. UTGQ rating for the ResponseEdge is 440, which is twice that for the RS-A. Extrapolating for wear to date, tires should last for a minimum of 60K miles.

To boot Goodyear ResponsEdges come with a 30 day trial period for full refund of tire price and a 50K mile warranty to maintain 2/32" minimum tread depth.

purchased the car with them. Probably 80% tread left. Maybe 10,000 miles on them

80% tread depth left after 10K miles is pretty darn good. Are yours the V-rated with UTGQ rating of 260? Though minimum usable tire tread depth by law is 2/32" inch, minimum safe tread depth is 5/32".

If the RS-As are roaring check for irregular wear, from inside to outside of tire, particularly rears (due to factory specd negative camber at rear wheels). Then contact Goodyear CS to describing issue with tire. Explain that you believe you are eligible for pro rata warranty adjustment based upon tread life. Original tread depth should be 11/32". If you have 80% remaining (9/32" or so) so you would be entitled to receive 80% off the value off new RS-As or an equivalent Goodyear tire. such as ResponsEdge. They will create a claim no. and instruct you take the vehicle to authorized dealer of your choice for inspection.

Once you have taken G for inspection contact Goodyear CS and explain that, if for example they are only finding issue with either front pair or rear pair, that they should make adjustment for all tires since replacing only one pair may cause adverse ride and handling since this is a sports car with staggered tires which cannot be conventionally rotated.

Please realize however that the G35 coupe, as a sporty car, does allow more road noise into the cabin than a luxury sedan. Since I purchased my Coupe new, I remember that the RS-As, when new were a fairly quiet tire for the application. You can see at Tire Rack's web site that the RS-A is by no means an inexpensive tire. That said there are better tires available aftermarket including the Eagle ResponsEdge.

The RS-As are OEM tires on new cars from Audi A4s to BMW 5 series to Maximas. Few manufacturers at the higher end of the spectrum will chance alienating their customers by intentionally spec'ing a cheap tire incapable of meeting the vehicles' performance goals. BMW had to replace early batches of Bridgestone EL42 RFTs on recent 3 series, due to a multitude of customer complaints about excessive noise and harsh ride. Bridgestone developed an improved design of the tire and likely paid for all the cost of the replacement program.

The adverse tire wear on the G-coupe is simply a characteristic product of the suspension and alignment settings calibrated in favor of improved handling.
