Arrow 225/45/17 on stock 17" rims????

Guys,
I need some new tires and was hoping to put some 225/45/17's on the stock rims on my 03.5 G35. The tires are going to around 5% smaller (3" or so) and I am not sure if this will work. Has anybody tried this? What about 235/45/17?

The reason I am looking for different sizes is due to money. I am looking for a cheaper summer tire and the 215/55/17, 235/50/17, 225/50/17 don't have a ton of options. If the 225/45/17's won't work I will probably go with the 235/50/17 which is the sport option size.

I appreciate all the help!

if you go with a 45 sidewall on the stock 17" rims, that will mess up th your VDC specially if you said its about 3" difference. personally don't think it's worth the hassle, you should maintain your overall circumference, at least within a 3% range, so you can keep the electronis of your vehicle happy.

That is what I was afraid of. So it looks like it is either the 225/50 or 235/50. So I will go based on the better deal as they are both pretty close to the 215/55. I appreciate the info!

I bought a set of 225/45s for my X and haven't had any problems at all. VDC doesn't care as long as all 4 tires are the same circumference.

HOWEVER, the salesperson at tirerack said the tires wouldn't fit on a 7" rim and I had to go up to 8".
BUT, I ran into someone at the track the other day who is running the same tires on his stock 7" rims on his Civic. Go figure.

225 easily fits on a 7" rim, even a 235 is within specs on a 17x7" rim, not sure why tirerack told you otherwise

So are you guys saying I would be fine putting the 225/45's on my stock 7" rims?
Also would that affect the warranty?

Qbrozen...did you buy the 8" rims or stick with the 7"?

He claimed that it was because the 45 sidewall wouldn't let it stretch enough ... or some such thing. I knew it didn't sound right, but he wound up giving me a deal on a different set of rims (8") which I like a bit better anyway ... so it all worked out.

Of course, the bigger problem is that, technically, I am no longer stock at the autoX thanks to the wider wheel. But, realistically, its ONLY a 225, so I've been sticking to the stock category. Hell, I'm still losing, so no biggie.
