Re: How good are the stock Brembos?

to be honest, i think even the stock 5at brakes are pretty good. i haven't driven the 6mt with the brembos yet but i'm sure it would be even better. i think unless you're planning on going to the track, either are great for around the town.

if you want better performance with the brembos, i believe there are past posts on brake pads that you can get to improve performance.

I heard the 5AT brakes are even more sensitive, if not as powerful. The Brembo's are good for :stopping fast. Ohhh man. My first test drive I slammed on those babies at 55mph to stop. =)

Re: How good are the stock Brembos?

Braking performance is dictated by the tires in our G's. The main difference between the stock and brembos (and brembos to aftermarket big brake kits) will be resistance to fade. 1 stop from 60-0 will yield very similar results between all three mentioned. After 5-10 stops in succession, the BBK's will perform incrementally better than the stock and brembos because they can absorb more heat.

20,000 miles and two auto-x's under my belt... no complaints here. Not a squeak/wear indicator noise from them bad boys yet.

IMO, the non Brembo brakes are overly sensitive without good feel, they are just too touchy. But, again that's JMO. I can't say enough good thing about my Brembos, OTOH. I think they are a great set of brakes (my only complaint being the dust). The feel is fantastic, their resistance to fad is top notch. In short, they are the best brakes I've ever used.

Wanted to add. I thought the Brembo's were overly sensitive in the beginning, however once I became acquainted with those babies, it brakes perfectly smooth until the last notch, where the real braking power will kick in.

I think the best thing for me, is the aggressive stance that the Brembo calipers portray.

al503 is right. The Brembos will not stop you any faster than the stock set up. They are only more resistant to fade.
It's all about the tire in this instance.

Re: How good are the stock Brembos?

I changed my front brakes out at around 7 or 8K miles to some brembo calipers/larger rotors. So I've had plenty of miles with both the stock brakes and with some brembos. My front calipers are also based off the Brembo lotus caliper like the 6mt ones. The difference is FADE. With it, you feel that you have more control of when exactly you want to stop. Both braking systems are more than good enough for regular street use.
