DOES ANYONE HAVE QUIET TIRES?

Just wondering... My stock Michelins in the front make noise. The others are fine. I have 13K on them and it looks like I can probrably get another 20K at least from the front. The rear may last another 10K Has anyone had tires on their coupes for an extended period of time and the tires are still quiet. If so what kind?

honestly (but i'm no expert), if you really want quiet tires and that's a big deal for you, don't get performance tires. you can always get non-performance/touring tires that will offer you a better ride and quieter ride. they may not look very nice though. if you still want performance tires, i would check out tirerack or other tire websites that give ratings for tires which usually have ratings on wear, ride, and noise.

Re: DOES ANYONE HAVE QUIET TIRES?

Z2G is correct that most performance tread tires will have some noise. I have found that the V tread (Toyo Proxi's and Bridgestones) create more noise than standard tread pattern tires. I have the Toyo Proxi's, and they are noisy in the city but on the highway they aren't too bad.
I was going to go with the Nittos but they were out of stock, I wish I would have waited because they are a lot quiter.

I have the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s and they're pretty quiet compared to the stock Michelins.

Re: DOES ANYONE HAVE QUIET TIRES?

The industry is always creating esoteric marketing ploys to sell new more expensive tires....years ago directional treads were created to give the appearance of something that might work better in the rain than just plain old soft fast wearing compounds.

This directional [noise creating] craze has gotten out of hand now everybody has directionals.
If you don't keep them aligned perfectly and rotated every 3,000 miles [flipped as necessary] they get heel toe feathered and noisey!
Notice that Michelin has gone back to non directional treads on its newest Ultra Performance tire PS2 to gain wet performance.
By the way Goodyxxr best selling directional raintire [bottom end S rated except in price] tested the worst - longest wet 50-zero braking

Re: DOES ANYONE HAVE QUIET TIRES?

I put Continental Extremem Contacts all the way around on my 18 inch Rims. Much quiter than the Pilots, I'll get twice the mileage as the pilots, and they are an all season tire that do VERY well in the Rain. I haven't had them in the snow yet, but I can't wait to try them in it next season.

Re: DOES ANYONE HAVE QUIET TIRES?

yeah, and it is difficult in our G coupes because you can't really rotate the tires unless to filp them to the other side which involves pulling the tire off the rim.

I've had performance tires in other cars... the quietest for me have been Faulken FK50 <- If I remember corectly and Bridgestone Potenza RE71, but they still made some noise after they wore down some.

Re: DOES ANYONE HAVE QUIET TIRES?

Get used to it. My stock Pilots make the worst noise on the planet up front. (23k miles) They are wearing evenly, but are "cupping" on the inside. Every other tread is worn and every other one is not. CANT WAIT TO GET RID OF THEM...........

g35.coupe@comcast.net if you have any questions....

Re: DOES ANYONE HAVE QUIET TIRES?

If you got 23K miles out of the Pilot Sports, you have nothing to complain about!

Acutally, on the G, the tires are not the main culprit regarding noise. It is the poor sound insulation of the interior!

For the person who was using Continental's, how is the performance compared to the Pilots? How do they look on the car? The Conti's are certainly a lot cheaper and appear to be an alternative choice for us.
