Newbie looking for advice on G35x suspension upgrade

17 x 7 OEM Wheels - Can they fit 235-mm tires?
NOTE: I've changed the title of the topic.. the first couple of posts were made relatively uninformed. I've now "done my homework" , read below..
The main question right now is how wide of a tire (specifically the Vredestein Sessanta) can I fit on my 17" x 7" wheels.
Old original post:

Hi folks
As the title suggests, I'm fairly inexperienced with upgrading my vehicle. Installed a Z-tube and new high-flow air filter, but that's about all. The time has come to upgrade my suspension.
I'd like to spend less than 1000 dollars on the job. My primary focus is to increase safety, at the cost of a small amount of ride 'comfort'. This came after a near-accident, where an SUV merged into my lane, less than 100 feet in front of my car and doing 30 mph less than me. I had to swerve right into the middle lane. Fortunately I've been driving the car for 2 years now, and so was prepared for the degree of body 'whip' the car gave me after correcting back from the swerve. I'd like to avoid this in the future, however, because had I not been prepared for the body roll, I could have easily fish-tailed or spun the car.
So, I'm posting here for some suggestions on parts, and explanations for the purpose and function those parts have on the vehicle. Again, I'd like to reduce the amount of body roll, even if this creates a bumpier ride.
Thank you so much for your time!

Please, no one rush to answer! heh
I know I asked a very vague question, and that that tends to elicit a very vague response. But thats ok.. I'm just trying to learn a bit more about my car's suspension, and the different upgrades / modifications available to the G35x. ANY advice would be greatly appreciated, and I know this forum is full of it. My own perusing has yielded terms such as "roll bars" and "coil-overs"... but other than a basic understanding of these components / procedures, I'm very much still in the dark.
I now also have questions about tires. No sense in starting a new thread, so I'll ask here - any personal favorites or recommendations for good all-weather tires? Preferably ~$200 per tire.
Thank you for taking the time to share your wisdom!

You should really use the Search feature in a forum before simply starting a new thread and asking a question. Or at least go to the model-specific forum and look for what's already out there. People may not have replied because it's obvious you didn't do either of these, and you don't tell us anything about your car other than we know it's AWD. If it's a first gen, then try this thread for starters ...
https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...uspension.html
... and then use the Search feature and read.

I agree I could have spent more time searching the forums, and I will... but I did not post blindly without looking at anything. The "Calling all x's with lowered suspension" was actually one of the first threads I came upon. My request here was for some brief explanations of terms. For example "Coil-Over" means the following: ..." etc, for the important elements of a car's suspension. I provided the AWD designation in case the rear diff has some effect upon the suspension I was unaware of. I'm not sure what generation my car is.. it's a 2005 so perhaps gen 2?

The easiest ways to improve handling are a set of rear sway bars and better tires (18" or 19"). Lowering your car a little bit is also a good option, and it's relatively inexpensive if you don't drop it too much (no camber kit required), but it's a more difficult to do the work. After all that a front strut bar. Unfortunately, the x is limited compared to the Coupe or RWD Sedan. We don't have coilovers available or a front sway bar, both of which are better handling options than anything else available to us.
Continue reading here. There's lots of great info and it's a very friendly group. But like every forum I've seen, and this one is no different, you have to do your homework first if you expect anyone to help you.

Alright, I've done some more homework, and have come up with a specific question on tires..
I'm almost certain my car has the 7-Spoke 17"x7 wheels. I BELIEVE stock this came with 205 mm wide tires, but bought the car used so don't know for sure. Presently I have 215/55 Turanzas on there. I'm going to buy some Vredestein Sessantas, here's my question -- How wide can I go? 225? 235? The wider the better, so long as it doesn't rub. Right?

Now that's better
Stock tire is 215/55-17, diameter is 26.3 inches. You should stick within 3% of that.
225/50-17 = 25.9" Definitely fit
225/55-17 = 26.7" Definitely fit
235/50-17 = 26.3" Definitely fit
245/50-17 = 26.7" Questionable fit
I say questionable because many of these tires require a minimum of 7.5" wheel width and are designed for an 8" or 8.5" wheel. The 235/50-17 is your best bet. I have 225/55-17 for my winter tires. I'm hoping to get 18x8's and new tires for the summer.
This has probably been answered in the Wheels and Tires section of the Tech Area

Alright, I'm stumped. After further research on the Vredestein website and some time spent playing with the Tire size calculator, here are the only 17" tire sizes that stay within 3% of my original diameter:
315/35 ZR 17 102 Y
275/40 ZR 17 98 Y
245/45 ZR 17 95 Y
I've searched the Vredestein website for recommended rim widths but to no avail. How can I be sure that these relatively wide section widths would fit on a 7" wide wheel? Is 7 inches the 'international standard' rim width for 17" diameter wheels? If so, then I would assume anything Vredestein sold under the 17" rim designation would fit on my wheels - the only job left would be to match the circumference/diameter to my originals. BUT... what if their 17" tire series is designed for rims with widths OTHER than 7" ? Can anyone confirm whether this is a standard rim measurement, and thus any of the above tires will work on my car?
Hrmpf.. all of this thinking makes me want to buy a new set of 19" rims and be done with it.. I'll entertain that thought by perusing these forums for recommendations on 19" wheels for the X, but if anyone reading this happens to have an opinion on good quality and value 19" rims for the X, i'd love to hear it. Also.. would I need to be concerned with the wheels being too wide for the chassis? I couldn't find any questions already posted on these forums asking about that..
315/35 ZR 17 102 Y

Of course 7 inches is NOT an international standard. Of course there are other wheel widths besides 7 inches. You have 17x7's, but there are 17x8, 17x9, 17x10, and 17x11's out there too. The 275's and 315's absolutely will not fit on a 7" wheel.
245/45-17 = 25.7" or 2.3% smaller than stock, so they'll work.
The 275's need a minimum of a 9" wheel, the 315's need an 11" wheel.

These took me about 12 seconds to find, cut, and paste.
Couldn't find anything about tire fitment. That's classic.

I really don't appreciate your attitude nor the way you're addressing me. I understand you're trying to keep the forum free of useless posts but in your rush to play moderator you've started making ad-hominem arguments based on some pretty poor assumptions about how much or little research I've done. Look at my post, and try to do so without viewing it through a veil of your own assumptions. You obviously labeled me in your mind starting with post #1, and your unwillingness to shed that bias has seriously distorted the way you're reading my posts.
I asked one question - how does the tread width correlate to rim width specifically for Vredestein tires. By no means is the answer to that question immediately obvious! What makes you think it's acceptable to explode at me for asking that?
Ultimately you answer my question "The 275's need a minimum of a 9" wheel, the 315's need an 11" wheel," But could have saved yourself and everybody else a lot of time and energy by getting straight to that point. In no way is that an obvious answer, nor is it one I could find after multiple searches through this forum, the manufacturer's website, and several Wheel & Tire tech webpages. How do I even know it's accurate information? Can you cite a source for that? Most likely, you are 'citing' your own knowledge gleaned from multiple years of experience with the subject.. but to chide someone who's obviously and admittedly new to the subject for not having access to such breadth of knowledge is just immature.
Thanks for your help, Buckeye.

At this point, I don't care if your feelings were hurt, if you thought I was chiding you, or whatever. And I find it laughable that you thought I was upset. You don't have that power.
I've been far more helpful than most people would ever be to someone who can't/won't do any work themselves. I suggested you do some more research, and it's pretty obvious you put minimal effort into it, and then came back saying you couldn't find any info (I'm stumped, Hmmpphh, etc.). I did a Google search on "wheel widths" and found numerous websites displaying far more information than you demonstrated in your responses. And a basic forum search turned up multiple threads and stickies related to tire sizing, both on the wheel and on the G35. My answers to you came from doing research myself, not something I pulled out of my ****.
I'm done. Sorry I couldn't help.
