More wheel help, you choose my new wheels...

OK I think I've narrowed my search down to 2 different wheels. I have offset questions for each type of wheel, plus I have a question about which wheel you guys like best...

I like the BBS RGR's due to the fact that they are a 1-piece forged wheel, and they are relatively light weight (19-20 pound range per wheel). The question would be, what offset should I get front/back to clear the brembo brakes? Also does anyone know what the DSK version of the RGR's look like (see link attached)? Do they resemble a polished look (shiny) or are they more dull?

The second wheel is the I-FORGED Evolution High Polished (check out the white G35 coupe). I don't like the fact that this wheel is a 3 piece (water collecting problems), nor do I like the fact that it is in the 24/25 pound range per wheel. I do, however, like the look of the wheel on Laser Red and was wondering what offset (NO SPACERS WANTED) I'd need to clear the brembos.

Also, I've read that there is a point of contact on this board that has the I-Forged Hook Up! (I could do a search, but I'm sure someone could post his name.) If anyone wants to IM me about prices or other data feel free.

Your opinions are welcome. I'm thinking about a 19 X 8.5 front and a 19 x 9.5 in the back with 2.5 and 3.5" lips (if possible) with Toyo Proxes T1-S in 245/35/19 and 275/35/19. I figure at least the tires will be light...

Please guys, I need your help as to what wheels I should get. I'm very easily influenced at this point and need some group feedback.

Thanks.

Re: More wheel help, you choose my new wheels...

Question:

What is your mission? If you have several objectives, what order are they in and how are they weighted?

A 25 pound 19"? Earlier you were talking 14 pound Mg. These are polar oposite missions.

If it's performance, are you trying to go fast in a straight line, or have a lower aspect ratio for the turns? Do you want to keep your tire pressure monitors?

My impression was always that you wanted faster. Faster means you need to stay in the 18", 18 pound realm. What understeer, oversteer qualities do you want? The tire width will affect the behavior of your car. Once you can answer that, you now know what tire widths you want, which will tell you what wheel width you'll need.

If you truly want performance, there are many wheels that are 18/19 pounds and still look great. I wouldn't get too hung up on forged or cast. Stick with a good wheel and cast will be fine. Forged is stronger true, but holding everything else constant. Which is stronger, a 1 nanometer thin piece of titanium, or a 5" thick piece of steel? You get the point. It's only stronger for a given configuration. You can still find a lighter, stronger cast wheel, it just depends on how the wheel is configured.

I've found a few light wheels and you can check them out if you'd like.

Volk CE28
Nismo
Volk LE or TE
SSR Comps

These are all 19 pounds or less in an 18" 8.5, 9.5 set up. I plan on dialing the understeer this will create with an adjustable sway.

This link should also help you determine the offsets. I plan on running a 245 in front and a 275 in rear. My offsets are different than yours because I don't have Brembo issues and I want close to stock so I'll stick in the 30 realm for offset.

I'd also be happy to forward the dissertation Eagle1 gave me on this subject. Email me if you'd like and I'll forward it to you.

Re: More wheel help, you choose my new wheels...

Undresteer is not an issue. I can drive in a straight line and not notice that.
I do not plan on tracking the car, so I guess you could say looks are important.
I want (not need) 19's.
I want an "eye catching" wheel.
I may go the SC route in the future, so a little weight at the rear wheels might not hurt too badly for hooking up early and getting the power to the ground earlier.

As far as the Mg wheels, I was fishing (weighing the cost of staying NA and getting lighter wheels or getting heavier wheels and going FI). Apparently the FI route is not much more expensive than going overboard with the NA route.

I'd really like an 18 lb. I-Forged Evo, but that's not possible.

So, I'm asking the opinions of everyone else to help "steer" my decision process. Darnit, I hate it when I have more post than the people reading my thread. I'm done for now, and ask everyone to post their opinions as to which wheels "LOOK BEST" on a LR coupe with Brembos.

Thanks.

Since you seem to like the mesh type wheels, my vote is the racing hart c4's. g35thanh has a thread with some pics. I think they are the best looking mesh wheels bar none because of the razor sharp and straight mesh.

I believe they are light also, weighing just a little more than my cp-f tuned which are 19 and 21 lbs. (19x9 and 19x10.5)

Ok, so performance is not an issue. You still need to decide who's eye you want to catch. 15-22 yo males? 18-30 females? If you're polling, make sure you poll the right demographic. Around here it seems to be the biggest lip, shiniest chrome, and most rivets as possible.

I happen to agree with al on the CPF line up. I particularly like the polished black on the CPF Tune and they're in the low 20s weight wise. I don't care for the mesh as they seem like a pain to keep clean.

Find the demographic you're looking to catch the eye of and poll them. If you ask around here, make sure you get everyone's age and gender. 37 m here and I vote Volk CE28N or CE28NF for the Red. I also dig the Volk SF Challenge RMCs that are being advertised a few threads away from here. Very shiny!

Here is my 1 cent.

Iforged rims bend easily as lots of ppl have experienced in the past. So that automatically makes me choose the BBS rims.

you could be right. I've only seen them in pics and not in person. However, my cp-f tuneds are perfect so I thought that the same level of workmanship and materials would be consistent with the entire line.

Re: More wheel help, you choose my new wheels...

its simple. BBS is race proven, is I-forged? I don't see F1 cars ever using I-forged wheels. I would get the BBS
