Rear Tire Size - I want to go wider - PLEASE HELP!

My car is at the shop and I am looking to get the rear tires replaced. I have 19 x 8.5 rims in the back and I currently have 245/40/19 on there now. I want to go wider with the tire, can I? If so how wide can I go? 255?

Thanks!
- Eric

Inch diff between the 225 and 255 so the car will have a pretty good rake. Not much perf/looks diff between the 245 and 255 really. And you can't do much else with that narrow of a wheel. I'd just stick with what you have.

I have 275/35/19 on the back and 245/40/19 on the front. Didn't have to change anything or roll the fenders. Just put them on a couple of weeks ago. So far no problems.
