I have got an 08 G35 sedan (without the AWD) and am looking for some all-seasons in 255/55/17. SW Ontario does get some snow, but the streets are plowed most of the time and I just don't see any need for winters. Any suggestions for good performance all-seasons in this size that would match up well on the G RWD?

A local tire dealer through a few suggestions at me Nokian WRG2, Michelin Primacy MXV4, Michelin Pilot Sport A/S plus. A buddy suggested Conti Extreme Contact DWS, but they don't come in 225/55/17.

After a little reading Im leaning towards the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S plus for my G35x... interesting to see what Neal says.

I see a couple different classes of tires in the mix there. Are you looking more for a sport a/s (crisper handling, better dry grip, etc) or a touring type tire (longer life, better ride, etc)?

That Michelin is an excellent tire. Ranked top of its class, great wet/dry, wears well, etc. Can't go wrong. Call me if interested

Definitely want a tire that can keep up with the car (nothing less than a V rated). I don't want to give any steering response, but at the same time the G does not have the quietest cabin so I would want to avoid a noisy tire.

What about in the cold/snow? That was part of my hesitation with the Pilot Sport A/S plus. The other concern would be how quiet and comfortable they are.

I have driven on the WRG2's before and found they squirly. Great in slush and deep puddles, but otherwise they were not remarkable. Plus in the summer I can see them wearing out quickly. Its odd that only in North America these are called "all-seasons" (well Nokian says "all-weather), everywhere else they are Winter tires.

resolving a dilemma
Hey Neal

Im hoping you could help me decide which summer tire to go for my G35C 2006. Im currently running 225/45/18 on the fronts and 245/45/18 for the rears

Im trying to decide between the hankook V12 and the Dunlop Z1 star spec...This is strictly for a DD (no tracking or auto cross)....
im basically looking for good handling, ride comfort and tires that you are confident with wen taking corners (on days that im in the mood for spirited driving).....and not to mention good resistance to hydro planing...

Good things abt the V12 that i like -Good bang for the buck, low noise levels and seem to be a decent performer in wet weather. but im worried abt the soft nature of the side walls, that almost all comments on the web seem to refer to..."squirmy feeling"...

on the other hand the Z1 star spec - has good handling and cornering abilities and ppl seem to like them during wet weather.. but they seem to be quite loud, seem heavy, plus dont have the same weight rating as the V12..

so i was hoping to get some inside info on the 2, so i could make my mind..lol

thanks

Sadly can't have it all. If you want the higher performance it will pull from quite/comfort and a/s traction. That's why the ultra hp a/s class works well as it's a bit of everything. I highly doubt you would be disappointed with the Sport A/S.

With good ride comfort comes softer sidewalls/handling. Same sort of scenario that I mentioned above. The V12 is a good dd tire that will be able to handle any street driving you do w/out beating you and the wallet up. The Z1's are a great tire, but for someone who is willing to trade tread life and ride for superior dry traction and response.

Both good choices, you'll just have to decide what area you want to sacrifice.

Neal,

Getting to the end of life on my OEM front Michelin Pilot Sports for my '04 6MT coupe (225/45-18) and it looks like the Pilot Sports are no longer made by Michelin. I replaced the rears with Pilot Sports (in OEM size) 2 yrs ago and they are still in great shape with lots of tread left. I really like the Michelins, and it looks like the PS2's are a great choice but I don't want to replace all 4 tires right now. Is it a bad idea to put Michelin PS2's just on the front for now?

Thanks for the advice.
